This part of the Great Wall is known as a photographer’s paradise. It is very quiet and the surrounding scenery is spectacular. Located in Hebei Provence, it is about 2.5 hours from Beijing and only partially restored. Jinshanling is one of the best preserved parts of the wall and is a great hike up. Recommended hotels near Jinshanling About a 50-minute drive from Jinshanling Great Wall We chose the Crystal Series wedding. My favorite part was the crystal arrangement of our names, ying & Di. We chose blue and white for the wedding dress and Xiuhe, both from Gracekelly. There were about 28 tables. It was a bit cold in mid-October, but I really want to recommend this hotel a million times. The hotel has a bath, swimming pool, restaurant, and hotel all in one. Friends and family from Beijing can come here for a two-day, one-night vacation. The day before the wedding, you can enjoy the hotel's hot springs and spa, then happily attend the wedding, and spend an hour returning to Beijing. It's like a weekend trip and wedding all in one. Tickets need to be purchased in advance online, on the same day they can only be bought at the scenic area entrance. It is 1.5km from the parking lot to the ticket checkpoint, which can be walked. After taking the cable car up, you will be in the middle section of the entire Great Wall, divided into east and west sections. ② If walking to the scenic area, after entering from the ticket checkpoint, turn left and follow a red road to the end. After about 10 minutes, you will see two forks, one is a stone step road on the left, and the other is a dirt road on the right. Jinshanling is probably the best section of the Great Wall around Beijing for families with kids. The scenic area is built like a large park, with gentle and easy-to-walk mountain trails. Apart from the abundance of bees and flying insects, the overall scenic area is clean, tidy, and well-managed. We chose the Jinshanling Great Wall Hotel at the entrance of the scenic area, which is just a three-minute walk to the park, making it very convenient! The hotel’s hygiene is acceptable, the breakfast is quite simple, but the à la carte dishes for lunch and dinner are delicious! The Great Wall scenic area stops entry at 5 PM, so we entered the park at 4 PM. Right at the entrance, there is a cable car that takes you directly to Xiaojinshan Tower. Following the local guide, we climbed the western towers to watch the sunset, which illuminated each tower. We climbed westward all the way to Liuyan Tower, counting a total of 16 towers. Worried that descending the mountain with kids after sunset might be inconvenient, we descended to the foot of the mountain a little after 5 PM. Actually, the descent was quite easy, so next time we can stay to watch the sunset with the kids. In summary, the western section of the Great Wall has very dense towers, with gentle slopes, making it easy for a seven-year-old to climb without any pressure. We saw many elderly hiking enthusiasts along the way, so this section is suitable for all ages. The next morning, we entered the park at 5 AM. Since the cable car was not yet operational, we walked up to Houchuankou and headed east to watch the sunrise. The eastern section of the Great Wall is steeper and restored to its original state, requiring some physical effort and the use of both hands and feet in some places! Due to the rapidly rising temperature and the oppressive heat, we only climbed four towers to the Guanjiao Tower before flying a drone and returning. We plan to come back in the fall for a more serious climb!

Rubbing your eyes? This is Summer Holidays in China but if you want a photo at the greatest monument built in China, with nobody inside but you, then look no further than this! From Beijing, get a driver to pick you up and drive to this great wall at Chengde, Hebei. You could even stay at a hotel here for a night, it is beautiful and restful. Otherwise, you need at least half a day to do this, and reach Beijing at night. There is a cableway to take you all the way up to the wall, and you just need to walk about 10min to reach the first tower to access it. Photos here look great, and the air is fresh and pleasant. Climb a bit and you get to rest in the many towers along the way.
