The Luoshi Temple Pagoda stands on the North Street of Wuwei City. It was built to commemorate the achievements of Kumarajiva, an eminent monk in the Western Regions, in promoting Buddhism and translating classics in Wuwei. The pagoda of Luoshi Temple was built in Houliang (386-400), and the pagoda and temple were greatly expanded in the Tang Dynasty, and were repaired in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. During the Ming Dynasty, it became the great monastery in Liangzhou, Shaanxi. On the fifteenth day of the 10th day of the 10th day of the orthodoxy of Yingzong, the Tripitaka was issued to the Luoshi monastery, and a sacred decree was issued: "The Tripitaka is published, given to the world, and widely circulated. Yizang, housed the great monastery in Liangzhou, Shaanxi, and made offerings to Yongguang.” This edict is now well preserved in the Confucian Temple. The existing Luoshi Temple Pagoda has 12 octagonal floors and is 32 meters high, all of which are made of striped square bricks. There are doors on the third, fifth and eighth floors from the bottom. The top is a gourd-shaped copper vase. There are small Buddha niches on the top and the upper floors, and there are Buddha statues in the niches. The towering Luo Shi Temple symbolizes the long and civilized history of the ancient city of Wuwei, and it is also a testimony to the cultural exchanges between China and the West on the Silk Road more than 1,500 years ago.
