Nagoya's Hidden Cherry Blossom Gems 🌸: A Sakura Wonderland
#cherryblossom25
Last year, I found myself in a cherry blossom "refugee" situation, but unexpectedly, my best sakura shot was taken right here in Nagoya! 🌸 Nagoya, often underrated as a cherry blossom city, has so many hidden treasures that are worth exploring. If you're still hoping to catch the last few days of full bloom, here are two must-visit spots in Nagoya for a spectacular sakura experience!
1. Kiso River Cherry Blossom Tunnel 🌸
Location: Kiso-gawa, Ichinomiya City, Aichi Prefecture
Access: Take the 11 bus from Ichinomiya Station on the Meitetsu Line and get off at "Sogo Sports Hall," then walk for about 5 minutes.
This 2-kilometer-long pink corridor along the river is breathtaking! The cherry trees form a natural dome over the path, and when the wind blows, it's like a cherry blossom rain, with petals falling gracefully in the air—a truly magical sight. Whether you’re cycling or enjoying a picnic along the river, it’s a romantic spot that feels peaceful with almost no tourists around!
Tips:
I recommend coming after 4:00 PM to capture the sakura against the warm sunset light. The best time to take photos is after 5:00 PM, when the light is soft and gentle. 🌅
There are no convenience stores along the riverbank, so make sure to bring snacks and drinks in advance. 🥤🍪
The bus schedule can be a bit tricky, so be sure to check the Google Maps timetable to plan your visit accordingly. 🚌
2. Kōjū-in Temple: Zen-inspired Cherry Blossoms 🌸
Location: Kōjū-in Temple, Shōwa Ward, Nagoya City
Access: From Gokiso Station on the Tsurumai Line, walk about 12 minutes.
This hidden gem is a century-old temple tucked away in a quiet residential area. The shidare-zakura (weeping cherry blossoms) here are truly mesmerizing, and the temple’s Tang-style architecture blends beautifully with the blooms. You’ll also find the rare double-flowered red shidare-zakura, which makes for a stunning visual experience. My favorite spot in the temple is the Hojo Garden, where the cherry blossoms perfectly frame the kare-sansui (dry landscape) garden—a true Japanese aesthetic masterpiece! 🌸⛩️
Tip: Wear light-colored clothes for the best photo ops! 📸
2025 Flowering Forecast: Now through April 5th, so don’t miss out! 🌸
