Historic buildings

An ancient temple with very strong incense in Changsha. Local people often come here to pray for blessings and go to the Guanyin Hall to turn around the statue of Guanyin. The ancient temple was built in the Five Dynasties period (896-929), and the existing buildings were mainly rebuilt during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. Today, it has become the dojo for bhikhunis (nuns) and the nun department of Hunan Buddhist College. The incense in Kaifu Temple is slightly different from that in other temples. Instead of lighting the incense and inserting it into the incense burner, the incense is thrown directly into the incense burner. On the central axis behind Jingxiang Square, there are Maitreya Hall, Daxiong Hall and Pilu Hall. There are 500 statues of Arhats in Pilu Hall. Interested tourists can count the Arhats here to determine good and bad luck. On the east side of the temple, there is the newly built Dabei Hall. In the center of the hall are the statues of Guanyin and the boy of good fortune. On the walls of the hall, there are 84 statues of Guanyin Bodhisattva. Local pilgrims believe that if they turn 3 or 7 circles around the Guanyin statue in the temple, they will be able to meet their needs. If you are in the temple and just in time for meal time, you might as well go to the kitchen behind the dining hall (canteen) to buy a vegetarian meal.
