#Hiking Schafberg Cog Railway. It boasts about 100 years of history and tradition. Usually, it runs to the top of Schafberg, but during the winter season from October to March, the Schafberg Cog Railway is closed due to the temperature and snow. It is also closed during other seasons or special circumstances. When I visited Schafberg, the train only ran to the middle. So I got off the train halfway up the mountain and walked hard up to the top. The 130km journey from Melk to Admont offered breathtaking scenery, making it an ideal route for a road trip. In the afternoon, we arrived in Admont and checked into Hotel Spirodom Admont, located just a 10-minute walk from Admont Abbey. Main highlights of Admont: 1. Admont Abbey Founded in 1074, it's one of Central Europe's oldest Benedictine monasteries, featuring a blend of Baroque and Gothic architectural elements. 2. St. Wolfgang Traveling about 70km (1 hour) from Bad Aussee, we reached Hotel Peter in St. Wolfgang. This family-run traditional hotel sits at the entrance of the town's pedestrian zone right by Wolfgangsee Lake, featuring a scenic terrace with panoramic views of the lake and mountains.

I realized I’d crossed into Austria from Germany when I saw a map notification, and then spotted a gas station nearby where I bought the vignette for €12.5, valid for 10 days. Just stick it on the left side of the windshield! Heard the fine for not having one is hefty. 5️⃣ About Parking The places I visited were popular tourist spots, so parking near attractions was convenient. For busy areas, there might be multiple lots (e.g., P1-P4)—if one is full, just try the next. Generally, you take a ticket upon entry, pay at a self-service machine when leaving, and scan the code to exit. 6️⃣ About Fueling Self-service: grab the nozzle, fill up (it stops automatically), then go to the counter, tell them the pump number, and pay. The difference can be as big as 145:210. 7️⃣ About Returning the Car Refuel before returning.
