The tender chicken, paired with the chewy udon, has the perfect balance of savory flavors, making it irresistible to take one bite after another. Sitting in this small shop, the picturesque scenery outside the window and the surrounding tranquility made me feel the slow and precious passage of time. This bowl of udon is not just food, but a continuation of a journey, allowing me to appreciate the beauty and simplicity of life while satisfying my taste buds. Here, I not only tasted a delicious bowl of udon but also experienced a way of life. Each chew is a moment of cherishing and gratitude for the present. Such an experience makes my memories of Kakunodate even more profound and beautiful.

Kakunodate in Akita prefecture is famous for its samurai district which did not disappoint. People who already have an interest and some knowledge would surely appreciate all the preserved buildings and artifacts on display here. On the other side of the town is a quiet river and park which makes for a nice stroll back down off the busier streets. It is said that the first three weeping cherry tree saplings on Samurai Residence Street were part of the dowry brought from Kyoto in 1656 by the wife of the then-lord Satake Yoshiaki. The most convenient way for tourists to get to Akita Kakunodate is to take the Akita Shinkansen It only takes 3.5 hours to arrive from Tokyo and 1.5 hours to Sendai. For example, we stayed in Morioka for one night. You can easily visit two major Akita attractions (Kakunodate and Lake Tazawa) in one day by leaving your luggage at the hotel. It is also a novel sight that the Tohoku Shinkansen and Akita Shinkansen run separately at Morioka Station. Fortunately, waiting for the bus on the platform in winter is indoors and it won’t be too cold. The Akita Shinkansen is a red train. The indoor seating arrangement is 2 by 2. The seats are spacious and comfortable. Remember to use the Tohoku Free Pass to enjoy unlimited Shinkansen travel within 5 days.

From the spacious yard outside the door, I cant think of a restaurant hidden inside. The restaurant was built from the original house. The use of large windows and windows makes the interior lighting very good. It is complemented by old-age kerosene lamps and old pianos. European retro style, very elegant. The restaurant also has an indoor part. Basically, the western style is more intense. There are also hand-made coffee filters that have been preserved for hundreds of years.
