Autumn 2024, Kumamoto
#100 Ways to Travel
「Take a ride to see Kumamon Dentetsu」
Another wish of mine when I came to Kumamoto is to take the Kumamoto Electric Railway. This time I took a tour and it was actually very simple.
First, go to the Kumamoto tram (light rail) Karashimacho station (I stayed at a hotel nearby), take the train to Upper Kumamoto, the last stop is JR Upper Kumamoto Station, then walk to the Kumamoto Electric Railway (local train) next to it and take it to Kita Kumamoto Station, then get off and walk around.
Since Kita-Kumamoto Station is a railway intersection, you can see many styles of Kumamon Electric Railway here~
Kitakumamoto Station is a very small station. You can take a walk in front of the station. There is a supermarket and a drugstore (this one is a drugstore + daily necessities store visited by locals - there are quite a lot of things!).
A McDonald's, and a Kumamon store next to the station exit... They sell a lot of Kumamon stuff, and some of the staff are Taiwanese.
We bought the WAKU WAKU One-Day Pass this time, which allows unlimited light rail, bus, and train rides. If you choose section 1, it is from Kami-Kumamoto to Kita-Kumamoto. If you want to go further, you need to buy section 2 or 3.
In autumn, it is also a pleasant experience to take the light rail and electric train.
