🛄ㅣKampong Ayer travel review and tips!!🇧🇳
Brunei Kampong Ayer travelogue - Another world I met on a water boat🏘
The most memorable moment during my trip to Brunei was definitely the experience of taking a water boat to see Kampong Ayer. As the name suggests, the entire village floats on the river. It was a unique place. It wasn't just a tourist attraction, but it was actually a huge water community where tens of thousands of people live, so it was really impressive.
🛥 | Getting on a water boat
When we arrived at the river, there were small boats lined up, and the drivers waved us over. After haggling over the price for a few minutes, we got on a small water boat. The motorized boat cut through the water faster than expected and entered the village, and the wind brushed my face, giving me a sense of speed.
At first, the feeling of running on water was unfamiliar, but it soon turned into excitement. I couldn't believe that the houses were floating on the water, and as I passed through them, I felt like I was in a scene from a movie.
🏡 | Village scenery on the water
As I got closer on the boat, I saw that each floating house had its own unique personality. Some houses had traditional Malay-style roofs, while others had colorfully painted walls, making the entire village feel like a painting. There was a school, a mosque, and a fire station built on the water... I couldn't imagine the scenery, and the people living in it were impressive.
The boat driver also explained the village from time to time. He pointed with his hand, saying, "This is the village hall, and that is the school." In some places, children were playing on the wooden bridge, and in some houses, the elderly were cleaning boats or cleaning fish. I could definitely feel that it was not just a tourist attraction, but a living, breathing community.
😃 | A beautiful moment
While taking a boat ride around the village, the sunlight shining on the river and the shadows of the floating houses were cast on the water were really impressive. Especially when the boat stopped for a moment, the sound of the waves quietly swaying and the footsteps of people walking on the wooden bridge mixed together, creating a very peaceful atmosphere.
At that moment, it was such an attractive space that I thought, ‘I want to live in a place like this.’ It was a world completely different from the hustle and bustle of the city, and it was a place where even the passage of time felt slow.
