#favouriteitinerary
Standing inside Batu Caves, looking out from the temple within the main cavern, I get to witness a breathtaking contrast between the ancient limestone sanctuary and the modern cityscape of Kuala Lumpur. The towering limestone jagged cave walls, adorned with lush green vegetations, frame the exit like a natural window. Sunlight streams in, illuminating the rugged rock formations and the colorful Hindu shrines inside.
The view captures the essence of Malaysia’s blend of spirituality and modernity—a sacred retreat set against the backdrop of a thriving city.

Unique Hindu Shrine Hidden in the Limestone Cave!
#favouriteitinerary
The Sri Velayuthar Temple, also known as the Sri Velayuthar Swamy Temple, is the main Hindu shrine nestled within the Batu Caves complex in Gombak, Selangor, Malaysia. This temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan, a revered deity in Hinduism, and serves as a significant pilgrimage site, especially during the annual Thaipusam festival.
The temple was inspired by the natural shape of the cave entrance, which resembles a ‘vel’—the divine spear associated with Lord Murugan. Devotees and visitors reach the temple by ascending a flight of 272 steps, leading into the vast limestone cave where the shrine is situated.
Inside, the temple is adorned with intricate carvings and vibrant statues depicting various Hindu deities and mythological scenes. Natural light filters through openings in the cave’s ceiling, illuminating the sanctum and creating a serene ambiance that enhances the spiritual experience.
The temple’s unique location within the limestone caves, combined with its religious significance, makes it a notable landmark and a testament to Malaysia’s rich cultural and religious diversity.
