One of the world's top ten parks - Kings Park, Perth
When it comes to world-famous parks, I believe everyone’s first impression will inevitably be New York’s Central Park or London’s Hyde Park. Indeed, in terms of popularity, area and landscape, these two parks are unmatched. However, the protagonist we introduce this time, Kings Park, located in the center of Perth, has also successfully squeezed into one of the top ten parks in the world on TripAdvisor with its beautiful scenery and open space that changes throughout the year.
Kings Park covers an area of approximately 400 hectares and is only about 1.5 kilometers from Perth's central business district. It is the largest urban park in the Southern Hemisphere. The park was once called Perth Park. It was not until 1901 that the then Governor of Western Australia, Forrest, presented it as a gift to the then King Edward of England. The park was then officially named King's Park. Kings Park has vast scrubland, uncultivated forests, temperate savannah, and even desert ecology, providing unique landscapes throughout the year. Standing on the top of the park, you can also see the vast panoramic view of Perth, the capital of Western Australia, and the majestic scenery of the Swan River and the Darling Range. It is the most popular tourist destination in Western Australia.
In addition to more than 400 species of plants and animals, the park also has some fixed attractions such as the State War Memorial, Lotterywest Federation Walkway, Aboriginal Art Gallery and DNA Tower. The National War Memorial is an 18-metre high granite obelisk commemorating Western Australians who died in the war. The Rottwest Federation Trail is a 620-meter-long garden trail with several observation decks where you can get a panoramic view of Perth. The most special one is the 222-meter-long glass suspension bridge in the middle of the trail, 16 meters above the ground. It is very special. The DNA Tower is the highest point in the park. Climbing up the 101 steps, you will find the best place to enjoy the city skyline, Swan River and Darling Range.
The park is so popular not only because of its beautiful and unique scenery, but also because of its mature supporting facilities, which provide tourists with a convenient sightseeing experience. The park has many picnic areas and barbecue areas for citizens to bring their own food to enjoy. For those who do not want to prepare their own food, there are also a number of restaurants and cafes in the park, such as Botanical Cafe, Fraser's Restaurant, and Zamia Cafe, where guests can enjoy delicious food while appreciating the beautiful scenery. Kings Park also provides a variety of entertainment venues, which has led to many drama festivals, film festivals, open-air concerts, symphony orchestras and opera performances, and even the Kings Park Festival held every September, being held in Kings Park.
Kings Park offers free guided tours, with three time slots available each day at 10 a.m., 12 noon (on designated days) and 2 p.m. Visitors can choose from one of several different walking trails and go deep into different nature trails accompanied by a guide to view unique native plants. Guided tours start each day at the park's information center, and you can go there on your own. If you have the opportunity to come to Perth, don't miss this free and popular attraction.
