Located in the southern part of Dazaifu, Guangming Zen Temple was founded by the monk Tie Niu Yuanxin from the Sugawara family in the 10th year of Bunyong (1273). It belongs to the Zen temple of the Rinzai Tofukuji sect. Guangming Temple is located next to the lively Dazaifu Tenmangu, but it is different from the lively Tenmangu, which is more quiet and unique. Guangming Zen Temple is the only Zen temple on Kyushu Island with a Japanese garden with a dry landscape. The trees in the temple are lush, the red leaves of more than 300 years old and more than 50 kinds of various moss are extremely famous in Kyushu Island. Therefore, Guangming Zen Temple is also known as another name. Called "moss temple". In autumn, the red leaves in the temple are like fire, and it is one of the famous spots for viewing autumn leaves on Kyushu Island. Zen Garden Komichi Zenji has two Japanese gardens. The vestibule "Foguang Stone Court" is small in scale, using moss to demonstrate the land, white sand to demonstrate the sea, using 15 rocks of different sizes, arranged in 3, 5, and 7 pieces slightly to form the word "light". Deep in the garden, there are two red-leaf trees in the Kansanshui Garden, which is famous for its heather and red leaves, and the only "Kaishanshui" in Kyushu is here. Patches of moss in the garden, rocks and gravel are laid out in a landscape colour. Perfect for deep meditation here.
