It was a winter trip to Gifu, Japan with my partner. Gifu in winter is a magical escape filled with stunning scenery and cultural treasures 😍 We started our journey in Takayama, a charming city surrounded by the Japanese Alps. The preserved Sanmachi Suji district was a highlight, with its traditional wooden 🪵 buildings, sake breweries, and shops. Walking through the snow-covered streets felt like stepping back in time. The ambiance was perfect for photography, especially with the warm glow of lanterns at dusk. The sunrise and sunset shots from here were spectacular, and the peaceful vibe made it one of the most memorable stops of our trip. It is also fun to look around the cafes and stores that commercialize the frog character, the symbol of Gero Onsen! The only regret is that the surrounding stores tend to close early, so I recommend going around the neighborhood early in the morning. I also recommend the souvenirs sold at the store inside Suimeikan. Among them, the most recommended is the bath salts that you can use to enjoy the hot spring water even after returning home! - It's a 5-minute walk from Gero Station. Yunoshimakan Hotel is located in Gero City, Gifu Prefecture. It is an old 5-star hotel. This hotel was also once a hotel where the Japanese royal family stayed. The hotel is located on a hill, but don't worry about transportation because there is a shuttle service from JR Station every now and then. The staff will send an email to inform you of the available times before your trip. On the way back, they will drop you off at the train station as usual. This is the second time I have stayed at Gero Onsen Ogawaya. Ogawaya is a large, established hotel. Every time I stay at the Yuraji Annex. Yuraji Annex seems to be a annex built later on the hotel. The facilities in the room are very new, with a terrace and a river view. When staying at Ogawaya Yuraji Annex, you can enjoy an old-style Japanese bath or stay in a new-style hotel room. The hotel is close to Gero Station, about a ten-minute walk away. You can also contact the hotel to arrange a shuttle bus.
