Kui Gate is the west gate of the Qutang Gorge and the western entrance to the Three Gorges. The Kui Gate section of the river is torrential and the high gorge stands on both banks, looking like guards at the entrance to the gorge. The water in the upper Yangtze River enters through this gateway. It is the Three Gorges western gate and is also known as the Qutang Pass. To the south is Baiyan Mountain and to the north is Chijia Mountain. Both are limestone with a long history of wind and rain erosion and look like two sharp axes cutting through the landscape creating a beautiful scene.
