#summervacay Southeast Asia's summer truly never stops, and my recent trip to Lombok's Kuta (which seems to show up as "Koeta" on Google Maps) was a perfect example! I originally planned for just one day, but I loved it so much that I extended my stay by another day and a half, which caused a bit of a scramble with accommodation (as I mentioned in a previous post). Kuta Lombok is a very typical Western tourist hub, Southeast Asian style. The streets are full of sun-kissed European and American young people, either surfing or diving, alongside older European and American couples simply relaxing at their resorts. You'll find relatively fewer Asian tourists here. Prices are about 2-3 times higher than typical Indonesian local rates, set to a "Western standard." This means you'll find everything from Japanese to Italian restaurants, professional diving gear, surfboards, and more. What to Do: There are tons of shops eager to offer surfing and diving lessons or tours. If you're interested, it's worth shopping around and comparing prices to get the best deal. Beaches: My Top Recommendations! Kuta Beach (Not Recommended): I don't recommend Kuta Beach itself. I found the sand to be quite dirty, and there were too many boats. Mawun Beach & Tanjung Aan Beach (Highly Recommended!): These are absolute gems! They're less crowded, the water is incredibly clean, and they're perfect for swimming. The viewpoint at Kuta beach is spectacular! 🎟️ The drive to the viewpoint has a gate that sells entry tickets for 15’000 per person 🏍️ There is a gate to park your bike, the walk to the viewpoint isn’t far but there are locals charging 10’000 per person to take you halfway, and 10’000 to return. 💧 Water is for sale at the halfway point. 🐒 There are a lot of monkeys that grabs anything that falls, especially bottled liquid Overall a must visit location!

What is defines a beautiful beach? For some, it’s the whiteness of the sand and the clarity of the water. For others, it’s the ruggedness of the coast and the power of the waves. For others, it’s the beauty of the people sitting along the shore. When it comes to beaches, beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. It’s also punctuated with thatch-roofed palapas and blessed with cool breezes most of the day. I’ve only visited twice, but I have a photo taken of me on the sand printed on the back of my business cards. I find it difficult to articulate what I love about the beach, as I’ve grown up by the sea and it feels as much a part of me as any other part of me. Near the beach I feel whole. Guests are often found lounging at the sparkly infinity pool that extends to the edge of a strip of sand with the ocean only steps below. The hotel seems to be especially popular with older European couples and has a romantic atmosphere, especially at the restaurant overlooking the ocean while the sun sets.
