⛷️ Akakura Onsen Ski Tour|Self-driving Tour to Myoko Plateau & Nozawa Onsen
📍Location: Hotel Taiko | 402 Akakura, Myoko, Niigata Prefecture
✨Hotel features
The Taijin Hotel is a relatively large hot spring inn in the Akakura Onsen area, retaining the Showa style, decorated with a bit of old-style design from the 1970s, but well maintained and clean and tidy. The biggest advantage is the location, at the end of Onsen Street, it only takes a few minutes to walk to Akakura Onsen Ski Resort🚡, which is super convenient for ski enthusiasts. The hotel provides free parking 🅿️, making self-drive tours easier.
♨️ Supporting facilities
The large bath and open-air hot spring are a highlight. The hotel has a ski equipment rental department🎿, which is very convenient for those who want to get it done in one go, but I like to rent equipment from familiar ski shops, and the price is affordable, the quality is more stable, and there is a chance to get a lift pass discount.
🛁 Room environment
The room space is large enough, the heating is strong enough, although it is minus a few degrees outside the window but the interior is warm. This time I chose a room type with a separate bathroom🛀, because many hot spring inns do not have private bathrooms, you have to go to a large bath before taking a shower, which may not be used to some people. The room looks out to the night view of the town of Akakura, the night snowflake atmosphere is full ❄️.
🍽️ Dining experience
There are several restaurants in the hotel, including Japanese kaiseki 🍱, Western restaurant 🍷, and tempura specialty shop 🍤, but this time they didn't include dinner, so we decided to go to Onsen Street to try an authentic shop. Breakfast is a buffet 🍙, with Western and Japanese options, especially the Niigata rice 🍚 super delicious, miso soup, grilled fish 🐟 are of high quality, eat full before heading skiing!
🛎️ Hotel Service
The staff service attitude is friendly, check-in and check-out are smooth, basically any need for help will be handled as much as possible. The housekeeping is organized daily, and the cleanliness is satisfactory. The only drawback is that the hotel is larger, the number of people staying, certain services may not be done very courteously, but the overall experience is still good.
🏂Ski experience
🚗Day 1|Depart from Kusatsu, drive directly to Myoko
After playing in Kusatsu Onsen 🚘, we went to Nagano to change a 4WD snow tire ❄️ to ensure safety and advanced snow area. It was night when we arrived at the hotel, so we went to the big bath to relax in a hot spring♨️ and plan our ski trip for the next day.
🏔️Day 2|Blue sky and white clouds, perfect ski day
Wake up and see super beautiful weather ☀️, blue sky and white snow, excellent snow quality. There are many Australian 🇦🇺 and New Zealand 🇳🇿 tourists in the venue, because the southern hemisphere is on summer vacation, so a large number of people fly over to ski ⛷️. In terms of equipment, still go to the first small rental shop in Onsen Street, run by an old couple (📍: さとみやスポーツ店) The appliance rent is very affordable, and very friendly, worth noting.
❄️Day 3|Snowfall day, powder snow paradise
30 cm of new snow fell today 🌨️, it's basically powder skiing paradise! The snow is soft and feels super smooth and cool when sliding down. Today we still see Japanese soldiers training in a snow field, supposedly conducting snow rescue exercises, which is quite special.
⛷️Day 4|Last ski day, straight out of Nozawa Onsen
The last day is sunny ☀️, of course we have to play until the last minute before leaving! Pack your gear 🎿, drive directly to Nozawa Onsen ♨️, and get ready to enjoy the next ski area!
💡 Ski rental & buy lift pass tips
🔹Hot Spring Street Ski Shop usually has lift pass discount, up to ¥2000 or so💰.
🔹In-site rental equipment is usually more expensive, there are many ski shop choices on the street, reasonable prices, good quality, it is recommended to compare and decide.
