【Must-eat food】
If you are a fan of Netflix food documentaries, you must be familiar with this "Izakaya TOYO"* in Osaka! This izakaya, run by owner Toyo-san, is famous for its super freshly cut sashimi, seared tuna and bold cooking techniques. It was once featured in Netflix's "Street Food: Asia" Osaka episode, attracting countless foodies and becoming one of the legendary izakayas that must be visited in Osaka.
🗣️Must-eat dishes & personal experience
✔ Toyo-style grilled tuna (マグロの烤り)
This is one of the most representative dishes in the restaurant! Grandpa Toyo-san uses a high-fire blowtorch to roast the whole piece of tuna directly at the stall, instantly locking in the charred aroma on the outside and the tender texture on the inside. Paired with chopped green onions and a special sauce, it's a meal that you can't stop eating.
✔ Freshly cut sashimi (sashimi set)
The sashimi here is made from super fresh seafood such as tuna, salmon, yellowtail, etc. Each slice is cut thick and full, with a chewy and smooth texture, which will definitely satisfy sashimi lovers!
✔ Fried food (fried food & fried food)
In addition to sashimi, the fried food in the store is also very popular, such as fried shrimp tempura and fried chicken nuggets (Karaage), which are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and are great with alcohol.
✔ Seafood Donburi
If you want to eat more, you can order a bowl of luxurious seafood donburi, which is topped with fresh fish sashimi, salmon roe, sea urchin, etc., and served with slightly sweet vinegar rice. Every bite is the ultimate enjoyment of the seafood!
✔ Sake & Draft Beer
Of course you have to drink wine when you visit an izakaya! They offer a variety of Japanese sake, shochu, and ice-cold draft beer, which go perfectly with sashimi and fried food.
📷 Toyo-san himself: If you are lucky enough to meet the boss Yutaka Nakamoto, he is super enthusiastic and there is basically no problem communicating in English! Many guests will take photos with him!
