2025 Mijas Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in March)

On the way to Mijas Pueblo from autovía A-7 you can go and see the summer 2022 forest fire site. The forest fire itself was a tragic accident, a sad thing that highlighted the heat and dryness of the summer 2022. Anyway the fire fighters were very quick and efficient and managed to extinguish the fire amazingly quickly. What’s left is the area where the nature is gaining the control again and it’s amazing. It shows to the visitor that a fire is not the end - it’s the beginning of a new life as well for the nature. Somehow walking on those paths made me think how much I really value the untouched nature. The slight smell of smoke can still be sensed and the views are amazing where green, orange and black together form an amazing view to the nature. I never hope anything like this to happen anymore but it’s a place to visit indeed. You can access the site from the route A-368 quite exactly one kilometer before Mijas Pueblo. The road to the parking to Cartera Los Arenales can sometimes be closed but using that parking area is the most convenient way to access the site. The Quarry of Los Arenales in Mijas is a spectacular place to see. It used to be a quarry years before but the transition to a site with outdoor usage value started around year 2000. There was more than 7000 trees planted at the site around 2007. As a result the old industrial area was transformed to a place where people can go walking and do sports. Many hiking paths of Sierra Mijas start of end there at the parking area of the cantera. There was a huge forest fire in summer 2022 just near the quarry and the surrounding forests were destroyed very largely. Luckily due to firefighters fighting the fire successfully and also the isolated nature of the quarry site, it remained mainly intact. But around the site it’s a different story. Cantera los Arenales is a popular biking site. You can access the site from the road A-368 just about one kilometer before Mijas Pueblo. But the road to the site from costa del sol will be uphill so prepare yourself with drink and enough food. #malaga #costadelsol #spain #naturalwonders

The white town situated on the side of a mountain (something I can look at every night) is well worth a visit when in and around Malaga! It’s super pretty and the views are unbelievably stunning! Showing all the way down the mountain into the coastline stretching for miles either side! On a good day the views will show you Africa, but closer to home, Marbella one side and Malaga the other! There are cute little shops and restaurants throughout the town with the opportunity to see the donkeys! Parking is 1€ which is perfect! Shortly at the top of the town are several walking routes if you bring your hiking trainers! One of which I have completed. 4 to go! 🚶🏻‍♂️🥾

Even though it’s nowadays considered unacceptable and too cruel, the bullfighting is undeniably an important part of the Spanish history. The country is full of mostly discontinued bullfight arenas. Mijas is no different. The bullfight arena of Mijas was built in 1900 and is located in the center of Mijas Pueblo just next to the local church in the hills of the coastal mountains at an altitude of 430 meters above the sea level. The arena is nowadays a museum and the entrance is via the souvenir shop in the building. Tickets are fairly cheap and only cost 3 euros per person. Inside the building it’s easy to feel the old times. It’s easy to imagine the arena full of people and the noisy bullfight. I recommend you to visit Mijas Pueblo if you’re visiting Costa del Sol area in Spain. You can access Mijas Pueblo from Fuengirola by car or taxi in about 15 minutes. It’s also conveniently located near the highway AP-7. There’s a big public parking at the center which I recommend you to use. I had no choice but to tell the owner that I drove from Marbella to have lunch. She sighed and thought she would let me because I was only three minutes late. Here is the small town of Mijas in southern Spain, facing the Mediterranean Sea with mountains to the north, with blue skies, white clouds, white walls and red tiles. What a beautiful place, but it also hides a deadly threat. On January 17, 1965, a US B52 bomber carrying four hydrogen bombs collided with a refueling plane over this area, resulting in the destruction of the aircraft and loss of life. Three of the hydrogen bombs fell into the sea and one fell on Spanish soil, fortunately without exploding, otherwise it would have destroyed half of Spain. Stone-built chapel, houses on the mountain waves, facing the Mediterranean, not far from Morocco in Africa.

what a great place. first off, it’s huge. there are 4 or 5 different areas to this complex which all have different pools, bars and restaurants. the little train around the complex is a life saver. The hotel is a close 10 min car rig to Mijas centre and to Mijas costa. The beaches are lovely at both towns with Mijas being much livelier in the evening. great times for the family and I would definitely recommend. for a family vacation for relaxing and keeping the kids busy I couldn’t be happier with this place.
