Macau's time-honored shop | Lai Kee Ice Cream
#MacauAttractions
Lai Kei Ice Cream, a time-honored ice cream shop in Macau, opened in the 1940s and has been in business for more than 70 years. Its homemade ice creams have accompanied many Macau people as they grew up. When I traveled to Macau a few years ago, my friends kept recommending that I must try Lai Kei ice cream, but unfortunately I had always forgotten about it 😂 Now that I am back in Macau after the epidemic, of course I have to make a pilgrimage.
Pushing open the glass door is like stepping into a time tunnel. Every brick, cabinet, table and chair have completely recreated the splendor of the past. The store mainly sells ice cream, but there are also toasts and sandwiches to choose from, but not too many varieties.
Ice cream sandwich 🥪~One of the signature dishes highly recommended by friends, the retro outer box is unique. The portrait of the girl on the box comes from the first-generation founder, Mr. Kuang, and it has not changed for decades. It is the size of a cigarette box, which is smaller than expected. Two wafers are sandwiched with three different flavors of ice cream. The flavors of the ice cream change with the season. This time we had coconut, cantaloupe, and vanilla. The coconut and cantaloupe taste very good, fragrant but not strong, and you won’t get sick of it. As for the vanilla flavor, it’s not that obvious.
Red bean ice 🫘~How much red beans are there, cooked to a soft texture, but the cup is a bit small, it’s easy to finish 😂
