Natural scenery
Lake Okutama is located in the western part of Tokyo. It is an artificial lake formed by the small Kawachi Reservoir intercepted by the upper reaches of the Tama River. It belongs to Chichibu Tama National Park. The artificial buildings here are in harmony with the natural landscape. There are cherry blossoms in spring, greenery in summer, red leaves in autumn, and snow scenery from the thrilling pontoon in winter. There is a small Hanoi shrine at the front end of the mountain protruding from the lake, where people worship 9 shrines and their 11 deities that are submerged in the lake bottom. The Kashima dance and the traditional Japanese lion dance are enshrined to the gods every autumn, and they have been designated as Tokyo Metropolitan Cultural Properties. The Okutama area is also famous for its hot springs. The water quality of the hot spring is colorless and transparent, cold spring water with sulfur content, which can make the skin very smooth. There are hot spring facilities such as "Suma no Yu", "Smooth Skin Hot Spring Center", and "Moe Onion No Yu" in Tokyo's Okuzaki, Akiru Noichi and Hibara Village in Okutama area. It's also good to take a hot spring bath to relax after an outing in the Okutama area.
