Liaoning Provincial Museum
There are so many exhibits
I mainly wanted to learn about the history of Liaoning, so I went straight to the third floor. There are five pavilions in the Ancient Liaoning Exhibition, but the Tang and Song Pavilion was closed, so I visited four pavilions and the Liao and Jin Dynasty Cultural Relics Exhibition.
From the prehistoric period, the Xia, Shang, and Zhou Dynasties, the Wei, Jin, and Southern and Northern Dynasties, the Tang, Song, Liao, and Jin Dynasties, and the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties, each period is introduced in detail. I only learned during this visit that the Qing Dynasty and the Jin Dynasty were both Jurchen. Nurhaci's original name for the Qing Dynasty was the Later Jin Dynasty, and it was Hong Taiji who changed it to the Qing Dynasty.
Since ancient times, Liaoning has been a region where multiple ethnic groups coexist and interact, with Mongolians, Jurchens, Khitans, and others appearing in succession. Therefore, the Liaoning Provincial Museum devotes more space to introducing its history.
Cao Cao's northern expedition also came to this area, which was quite a long journey.
Liaoning Provincial Museum is the first museum established after the founding of the People's Republic of China. It was established on July 7, 1949, and was originally named the Northeast Museum. In 1959, it was renamed the Liaoning Provincial Museum. In 2008, it was rated as a national first-class museum, and in 2009, it was listed as a national museum jointly built by the central and local governments. The new Liaoning Provincial Museum is divided into five areas: exhibition, visitor service, cultural relics storage, cultural relics protection, and comprehensive business. The exhibition area is divided into three floors, with 22 modern exhibition halls. The museum has nearly 120,000 cultural relics, including tens of thousands of precious cultural relics, mainly archaeological artifacts and historical and artistic relics from the Liaoning region, divided into 20 categories, including calligraphy, painting, silk embroidery, bronze, and ceramics.
