Huang Junshi's calligraphy is based on the Jin and Tang Dynasties, with additional reference to the Song and Ming Dynasties, and is profound in ancient times. He is good at running cursive and small regular script, and is especially famous for his cursive script. The exhibition presents Huang Junshi’s rich humanistic accomplishments and accomplishments as a calligrapher, painter, connoisseur, scholar, and poet over the past decades.
Huang Junshi was born in Taishan County, Guangdong Province, China in 1934. He once studied in Hong Kong, Japan, and the United States. In the 1980s, he founded the Chinese calligraphy and painting department of Christie's auction house and served as its director for many years. After retirement, he was employed as a senior consultant in the Chinese calligraphy and painting department of Sotheby's auction house.
Huang Junshi has held personal calligraphy exhibitions at the National Art Museum of China, Shanghai Art Museum, Hong Kong City Hall and Guangdong Provincial Museum. His calligraphy is based on the Jin and Tang Dynasties, with additional reference to the Song and Ming Dynasties, and is deeply rooted in ancient times. This year marks the 90th birthday of Mr. Huang Junshi. The Long Museum displays his exquisite paintings and calligraphy works over the years as well as his inscriptions and postscripts on ancient paintings and calligraphy, a total of more than 100 pieces.
With three major themes: "The Heart of the Jin and Tang Dynasties", "The Elegance of the Song and Ming Dynasties" and "Love the Ancients No less than Today's People", the artist's calligraphy and painting style and origins are presented, and he shares with the audience his rich humanistic qualities as a calligrapher, painter, connoisseur, scholar and poet. and achievements, conveying the artist's intention to pay tribute to the ancients and sages.
In addition to the Jin and Tang dynasties, Huang Junshi studied calligraphy and painting from the great masters of the Song and Ming dynasties. Among the people of the Song Dynasty, Huang Junshi loved Mi Fu the most. Many of his calligraphy works were written in Mi Fu's style, and many calligraphy works were also influenced by Zhu Yunming, Chen Chun and Wang Duo.
This exhibition displays Huang Junshi's fine calligraphy and painting works over the years, as well as inscriptions and postscripts for ancient paintings and calligraphy.
