Lu Xun Park is a century-old urban park. It was originally a sports venue for Western expatriates. It was named Hongkou Park in 1922, opened to the Chinese public in 1928, and renamed Lu Xun Park in 1988. The park is located at No. 345, West Dalian Road, Hongkou District, Shanghai, adjacent to Hongkou Football Stadium, covering an area of about 223,700 square meters. The park was originally built as a shooting range by the Municipal Council in 1896. After several expansions and renaming, it was officially renamed Lu Xun Park in October 1988.
Lu Xun Park is not only a beautiful urban park but also an important cultural memorial site. The park is home to national cultural relics such as the Lu Xun Memorial Hall and Lu Xun's Tomb. The Lu Xun Memorial Hall showcases Lu Xun's social activities and cultural life in Shanghai, while Lu Xun's Tomb was relocated here from the Wanguo Cemetery in 1956, the 20th anniversary of Lu Xun's death. Lu Xun Park was built in the 22nd year of the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (1896) and is Shanghai's main historical and cultural memorial park and China's first sports park. In 1956, on the 20th anniversary of Lu Xun's death, Lu Xun's tomb was relocated here from the Wanguo Cemetery.
