Decided to stop in historic port town of Hakodate to start my journey in Hokkaido. Visitors may be surprised to see the amount of Western style architecture as Hakodate suffered several fires destroying old buildings but making way for new styles that came with doing commercial business outside Japan. There were people having picnics and BBQs in the park☺️ I definitely wanted to go to Hachimanzaka! It was sunny and there weren't many cars in the area, so tourists were taking photos (lol) Kanamori Red Brick Warehouse, which you can walk to from Hachimanzaka! There is also Lucky Pierrot, which originated in Hakodate, nearby. There are souvenir shops and a beer hall to enjoy! Lucky Pierrot is so delicious that I was surprised 🍔🍟 At night, we went to Mt. Hakodate, which is famous for its million-dollar night view!! The night view starts after 7pm on the day we went, so we arrived at the top around 6:30pm and waited outside. It was cold and freezing, so you might need cold weather gear! Some people were even down. The gondola on the way back is crowded, so you should prepare to wait 30 minutes 😵💫 The gondola moves every 5 minutes! After reaching New Chitose Airport, we took JR to Hakodate which takes about 4 hours to reach. The hotel we stayed at was Flexstay Inn Hakodate Station. The hotel is located just opposite Hakodate JR and bus station. The first day we just had our dinner near the hotel as it was quite late when we reached. Day 2 We chose to have our breakfast in the hotel which only cost 1200 yen with quite a lot of variety. Then we walked to the Hakodate bus station opposite the hotel there are plenty of buses going to Goryokaku Garden. There are many people doing exercise at Goryokaku Garden. It is a beautiful star-shaped park and historical site. We chose to go up to Goryokaku tower, which needs us to buy a ticket that costs 1000 Yen or can buy from trip.com which costs about $8.8 sgd. Goryokaku tower is an observation tower which allows us to view and capture the panoramic views of the star-shaped Goryokaku Fort. It also shows Goryokaku’s history and the Boshin War using the miniature figurines. Then we took the bus to Hakodate Tropical Botanical Garden which allowed us to see monkeys showering in the hot spring. The entrance fee is 300 Yen/pax. There is a Greenhouse garden but similar to Singapore so we pass on it. Then we found a small ramen shop nearby which is operated by an elderly woman herself, the fried rice is very nice. Next we took a tram from Yunokawa onsen to Juijigai station which cost about 260 yen. From Jiujigai we walked to Machikado crepe, which is located on the 2nd floor, this crepe is the best crepe that I have ever tried, very crispy and delicious. Then we continue to walk to the Kanemori red brick warehouse. There is a Lucky Pierrot, we went to have a burger there, the bun was full of sesame fragrant, worth trying. The Mount Hakodate ropeway was too crowded so we never went up to Mount Hakodate. Day 3 Early in the morning we walked from Hotel to Hakodate Morning Market Square to have our seafood breakfast.
