if you’re aiming at Emeishan mountain, visiting these hotsprings is a must. there are other natural hot springs in this area but these are the only cozy ones among the greens , we came late on the evening and it was just magical. Pools are from different sources and are different colors, you can also go to a sauna , eat an ice cream or have a drink there. service is great even though nobody speaks English there, everyone is very helpful and sweet, they give you big bath robe so you don’t feel cold in winter. amazing #newyearadventure👍

Mount Emei, alternately Mount Omei, is a 3,099-meter-tall mountain in Sichuan Province, China, and is the highest of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China. Mount Emei sits at the western rim of the Sichuan Basin. The mountains west of it are known as Daxiangling.

Day 2: Climbing Mt. Emei, one of the 5 holy mountains in China and the birthplace of Buddhism in China. The trail consists of two things, temples and stairs. Everything I read online made this seem like a short, doable hike. It's not the first, and for most, not the second, either. Like the first segment, Baoguo Temple to Xianfeng, day 2 is more of the same. A death march of stairs for 26 km. After spending a night in Xianfeng Temple, begin the day early, preferably before 7 AM to beat the heat. The monks will begin their morning chanting around 530 AM and continue after you leave. It's a very peaceful environment with the sound of birds and monks in the morning. Eat a quick breakfast, snacks you carried or acquired along the way from Day 1 or order food at the temple. The day will start easy, a pleasant change from the previous days consistent climbing for long stretches. The trail begins with a descent of a couple hundred meters interspersed with areas of flat trail and minimal climbing. As was the case the previous day you will pass numerous temples, some more extravagant than the others, some with restaurants and accommodation. After a few hours of climbing and passing a few small snack stands, some abandoned, you will arrive at Xixiangchi, Elephant Bathing Pond, a temple at the top of a mountain. Here you can find accommodation and a family of resident monkeys. Due to its 360 degree views it could be an ideal stay for a sunrise or sunset view. It could be a good end point on day 1 for those wanting to move beyond Xianfeng Temple. This would make day one over 37 km of hiking. From here the hike to Leidong Ping becomes more challenging as the trail gains another few hundred meters in elevation. Grab snacks along the way at the few shops for energy, but expect to pay exorbitant prices. You should arrive to Leidong Ping in 4 to 6 hours, depending on rest, after leaving Xianfeng. You'll have your first sighting of the cable car indicating you are close to Leidong Ping. Here you will find restaurants and hotels, along with dozens of busses bringing hoards of tourists. Eat lunch in Leidong Ping or take a short rest before returning to the trek. Walk 1.5 km down a busy path of shops, tourists, and angry monkeys, protect your belongings. At this point you can take the cable car to Golden Summit or walk an additional 6 km. Most tourists take the bus option to Golden Summit and then cable car; however, if you've walked this far keep going. There's nothing spectacular about this section other than the return of stairs. It's not called "Going to Heaven Road" for nothing. An hour or two later you'll again see thousands of Chinese tourists, you've made it to the Golden Summit. It will appear to be a small village, hotels and restaurants abound with more construction taking place. The Golden Temple is a large complex and sight to behold, but due to its over crowdedness it lacks in comparison to the journey to get there.

Surprisingly I was never that tired nor sore. I think all the high elevation hiking made this easier, started at 500 meters and climbed to 1800 meters. Previously I'd been hiking between 3,000 and 4,800 meters. The articles I read showed maps, and in some cases distances. The distances were way off. I was expecting a 9 mile hike on Day 1. It ended up being 18 miles of almost continuous stairs. One site in particular said the other information online was wrong and they were confident in their numbers from checking multiple times. They weren't even close. When I kept seeing signs in the park I thought no way their numbers are correct. After having walked 8 miles and thinking I was almost to my destination it was disheartening to see a sign that said 20 km more. I think even they were off by a mile or two. The final sign said 5 km, but my watch only calculated another 1.5 miles. I'm not really sure why Chinese trails are full of stairs, but I've discovered that's most typical if there are temples nearby. So I'm blaming the monks for building these trails thousands of years ago. The trail is challenging and not something I ever want to do again, but it has been scenic walking through a jungle environment with rivers, waterfalls, monkeys, chirping birds and bugs, and nice views of the rock formations and mountains. Staying the night in Xinfiang Monastery, the half way point. The trail took 9 hours and 20 minutes with a 1/2 hour break for lunch and a few other extended stops along the way. In total it was slightly less than 8 hours of hiking time. The room is rustic, but clean. Shared bathroom and showers, with vegetarian food. Private rooms with private bathroom were 600 RMB, almost $100, but I chose the cheaper option. It was donation based so I gave 150 RMB, about $18. It's probably worth closer to $8.

Getting There - from Chongqing, we took a high speed train into Chengdu then transferred to emei. upon arriving in emei town, we got a didi to the mountain entrance. Attractions - The main attraction is the Buddhist statue at the top , but enroute to the peak, you’ll be greeted by incredible views. You’ll be able to see the 4 seasons within this mountain. from spring/ summer at the bottom , autumnal colors near the middle to snows near the peak- prepare suitable clothing! as well as that, if you’re lucky, you might see the stars late at night.
