Luotian is the hometown of sweet persimmons in China, and the sweet persimmons of Luotian are most famous for Zan Stone, which are large, thin-skinned, crisp and sweet, and are the only variety among the many sweet persimmons in the world that do not need to be artificially de-astringent.
The cultivation of sweet persimmons in Luotian has a history of more than 1000 years. In ancient times, when daughters got married, they used persimmon trees as dowry. During the Japanese invasion of China, a special force was dispatched to loot Zan Stone sweet persimmon specimens and transport them back to Japan. In the 1980s, experts were sent to Zan Stone to study its soil and water. The sweet persimmons in Japan today are the offspring of Zan Stone.
