Ma'anshan, anciently the land of Wu, Yue, and Chu, boasts a rich history and culture. Excavations of prehistoric cultural sites like Yandun Mountain and Lingjiatan may push the history of Chinese civilization back more than 5,300 years. The Lingjiatan site in Hanshan County is recognized as one of China's "Top 100 Archaeological Discoveries of the Century." Ma'anshan Museum houses a large collection of unearthed cultural relics, including ancient jade and bronze ware. Figure 3 shows the museum's most treasured artifact: a large bronze nao (a type of bell) with a hooked cloud pattern from the Shang Dynasty.

Ma'anshan was part of the State of Wu during the Western Zhou Dynasty, and later became part of the State of Yue and the State of Chu during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. Legend has it that after Xiang Yu committed suicide, his horse, Wuzhui, missed its master so much that it rolled over and killed itself, and its saddle turned into a mountain, hence the name Ma'anshan (literally "horse saddle mountain"). Ma'anshan spans the Yangtze River and has been known as the "Jinling Barrier, Jiankang Key" since ancient times. As a national second-class museum, Ma'anshan Museum houses more than 10,000 cultural relics, with the Six Dynasties celadon being the most representative. The permanent exhibition "The Green Water Flows Eastward to This Point - Ma'anshan History and Culture Exhibition" is divided into five sections: Dawn of Civilization, Six Dynasties Capital, Land of Outstanding People, City of Landscape Poetry, and Modern Civilization, which clearly outline the development of Ma'anshan's cultural history. The museum's treasure is the Shang Dynasty bronze naoyao with cloud and thunder patterns, a special ritual vessel used by ancient people to worship the gods of the Yangtze River. This bronze naoyao is large and heavy, with exquisite and intricate patterns, and is the only bronze naoyao with full interior and exterior decoration found in China, with extremely precious historical and artistic value. The Six Dynasties celadon, represented by the Three Kingdoms Wu celadon chicken-head pot with string patterns, is the most distinctive feature of the museum's collection and plays an irreplaceable role in the study of the Six Dynasties ceramic culture in Anhui. ❤ The museum's treasure - the Shang Dynasty bronze naoyao with cloud and thunder patterns, 52.5 cm high and 54 kg in weight, was unearthed in Ma'anshan Economic Development Zone in 2003. The naoyao, a hand-held bell, is one of the bronze percussion instruments used in ancient China, originally used to transmit orders in the army. In addition to the full decoration on the outer wall, the naoyao is also engraved with regular cloud patterns inside. This is the only bronze naoyao with full interior and exterior decoration found in China. The overall style of this naoyao is majestic and grand, with exquisite craftsmanship, reflecting the highest level of bronze casting technology in the Spring and Autumn period. ❤ Ma'anshan has a long history and a splendid culture. The history of Ma'anshan can be traced back to the "Hexian Man" in the most ancient times, and the "Lingjiatan Culture" of the Neolithic Age is one of the important origins of Chinese civilization. During the Wei, Jin, and Southern and Northern Dynasties, Ma'anshan became the capital of the ancient city of Nanjing. ❤ The museum is divided into five exhibition halls from ancient times to modern times, providing a direct understanding of the development of civilization in Ma'anshan. ❤ Stamps are available in the museum. When I visited, there was an event where you could get a stamp by posting on social media, at the service center on the first floor. I went late, so there were not many people, and no reservation was needed. ❤ There is also a painting exhibition of the museum's exhibits on the first floor, which is very good. ❤ The special exhibition is a Guang embroidery exhibition "Ten Thousand Threads of Gold". Address: Ma'anshan Museum is located at No. 2006-1, Taibai Avenue, Ma'anshan City, Anhui Province, in the Cultural Center of Ma'anshan Municipal Park. Tickets: Free admission. Opening hours: 9:00-17:00 (last entry at 16:00). Closed on Mondays, open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, with two free guided tours per day at 10:00 am and 14:30 pm. From Wuhu Station to Ma'anshan East Station, it only takes 17 minutes. You don't need to come too early. I arrived at 10 o'clock, which is enough for a day in Ma'anshan! Of course, if you want to experience the breakfast culture of Ma'anshan, you can come earlier. 1. The first stop is Yushan Lake Park. You can see the bus station when you leave the station. Take the 202 bus to Tuanjie Square West Station. Next to it is Jinying Square. Follow the navigation and walk a few steps to Yushan Lake Park. As soon as you enter the park, you can hear the saxophone being played in the pavilion. It sounds really good. There are also people playing guitar and singing. The park has a great view and fresh air. It was cloudy when I went there, but it would be even better on a sunny day. 2. Wanda Plaza. After leaving Yushan Lake, return to the bus stop where you just got off, and continue to take the 202 bus to Wanda Plaza. I came to eat Mijun Bibimbap. On weekdays, I waited for about 20 minutes. There is no way, who makes Wuhu not have Mijun Bibimbap. It must be arranged when coming to Ma'anshan. 3. Ma'anshan City Museum is just one stop in front of Wanda Plaza. It's very close. After eating, follow the navigation and you will arrive in a few minutes. No need to make an appointment in advance, just scan the code on site to make an appointment. The museum has several exhibition areas and different themes. The Li Bai theme exhibition area and works exhibition are quite good and suitable for taking pictures and checking in. There are also notebooks for sale on the first floor, with different prices of 10, 20 and 30 yuan. I don't think the notebooks are worth buying. 4. The Third Railway Coffee. After leaving the museum, take the 127 bus to the Children's Mall Jiefang Road Station and get off. Next to it is the flower and bird market, which you can also visit. It has a lot of human touch and there is an old-fashioned newsstand. I haven't seen it for a long time. The coffee shop is really good for taking pictures. Unfortunately, I came alone and could only take selfies. The atmosphere in the shop is very good, and you can sit for an afternoon with a cup of coffee. I ordered a Tiramisu for 35, which is a bit expensive but still acceptable. 5. From the coffee shop, walk to the Health Road bus stop and take the 14 bus to Du Street. It is a snack stall and the price is not expensive, but it is not highly recommended because they are all common snacks without any special features. Finally, I was going to go to the Changjiang Never Night City, but it was a bit far from the high-speed rail station, so I didn't go. I will have the opportunity to go next time! Ma'anshan is really worth a visit. You can come and stroll around when you are free. The city is not big, the transportation is convenient, and you can reach it by bus and small yellow car.
