Many people have probably seen this strange sign while driving around the Izu Peninsula. The private theme park "Maboroshi Expo" located along National Route 135 in Izu Kogen is a mecca for new culture, with a collection of "grossly cute" mysterious items on a site of about 14,500 square meters! From horror museums to strange toys, art, and Showa retro lifestyle goods, the exhibits are constantly growing and evolving, and the chaotic space that both adults and children can enjoy is attractive✨ The museum also has many collections that were transferred from the former treasure museum, and I have never seen a more chaotic space in Japan. Shizuoka Prefecture is home to the "Maboroshi Expo" in Izu Kogen. This place has been featured on many TV programs📺 Originally a tropical botanical garden, it was a truly chaotic theme park filled with a wide variety of items, from those that the director was interested in to those donated by the public😳 From a Tyrannosaurus to the particularly large Ambassador Shotoku, to the giant statues of a horse head and a cow head...there were many exhibits with no sense of unity, and I wondered, "What on earth is this place...?" With an area the same as the Tokyo Dome grounds, there was so much information, from strip shows to fairy tales, literature and art...and even nostalgic Showa retro exhibits, that it took me 90 minutes to go around everything😅 It's truly the most unusual spot in Izu! That's why it's so worth seeing! The director is also quite... or should I say, quite chaotic, so if you visit, be sure to meet him😌 *Personally, I was impressed by the Ultraman made out of a spoon✨ Even the color timer was faithfully reproduced... I love Tokai On Air, and one of my favorite segments is the "46 Prefectures Trip." I was really curious about the "Phantom Exposition" that Shibayu and Yumemaru introduced in the Shizuoka trip episode, so I finally went there. I've often traveled to Izu and Ito with my family since I was a child, but I had never been there because I was too suspicious of what kind of museum it was when I drove by and saw the sign (lol). It takes courage to go there for the first time...! There are so many precious treasures on display here, including those collected by the director and those brought by fans. The director, Sarah, greeted us cheerfully on the day we visited! She was happy to take photos for us 🫶 The giant Prince Shotoku is a famous attraction, and many people took photos of it. The museum was divided into sections based on the theme, but even the director himself doesn't seem to know what's on display 😹 It seems that it started out as a botanical museum that was bought by the director, Sarah, but there are also exhibits outdoors along the mountain, so I don't think you can see everything in one day. (lol) I like creepy things and have a hobby of the creepy, so I was excited by the chaotic space and the things like this!! !! I'm sure the contents will be different if I go again.
