Rediscover Childhood Comforts at Mama Diam
Another bar that I had recently visited is Mama Diam. Styled like an HDB void deck with a traditional mama shop at the front, the place evokes strong nostalgia for those who remember the mama shops as comforting neighborhood staples, where sweet treats and small joys were always within reach.
We ordered nearly the entire menu, and I can honestly say the food was delicious. One standout appetiser was the Crispy Cauliflower with soy glaze, which we ordered twice because it was so addictive. Despite being a healthy dish, we couldn't stop popping it into our mouths like chips or fries!
Another dish that surprised me was the Curry Chicken Kueh Pie Tee. It's an innovative take on a classic, and I expected the curry chicken to soften the shell, but it didn't. The crispiness of the shell paired perfectly with the tender, spicy curry chicken. Putting the whole thing in my mouth resulted in an explosion of flavours that were out of this world!
The cocktails at Mama Diam cleverly infuse local flavours like mango sago, kaya, and pineapple with different types of alcohol. They're so well crafted that the alcohol is barely noticeable, which can be dangerous. After two cocktails—the Mango Sago and Ong Lai—and a kaya shot, I was already tipsy!
The Kaya shooters particularly impressed me. The base alcohol was tequila, which I usually dislike, but after some persuasion, I gave in and didn't regret it. The shooters tasted exactly like kaya, with no hint of tequila at all. The infusion was amazing!
Overall, Mama Diam offers a delightful blend of nostalgia, innovative cuisine, and cleverly crafted cocktails. The bar's unique theme and exceptional food make it a must-visit spot. Whether you're there to reminisce about the past or simply enjoy a delicious meal and creative drinks, Mama Diam delivers an unforgettable experience.
