1. Take the Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo directly to Nasushiobara Station. Follow the signs for the direction of the Itaya Onsen to exit the station and take the bus. (After turning our heads, we asked a bus driver, but it was difficult to communicate due to the language barrier. Fortunately, there was a young lady on the bus who spoke English and helped us look at the signs. We found that there were only three buses a day in the direction of Itaya Onsen. It was only a little after 9:00 a.m. when we arrived (we missed the 8:00 a.m. bus, the next one was close to 1:00 p.m., and the last one was at 5:00 p.m.). We could either wait three hours, take a taxi for 2,500 yen per person (5,000 yen for two people), or walk for more than two hours. 2. We asked if there were any public bicycles, and the elderly driver said there weren't any here. We originally thought we could only take a taxi, but the driver helped us ask around and found that we could take his bus (I forgot which direction it was going) to the Yuainomori stop (920 yen per person). Then, we could go to the office there to inquire about public bicycles. We calculated the time and it would take more than four hours round trip. The bicycle fee was about 2,500 yen per person (I don't remember exactly), which seemed even less worthwhile than a taxi. So, we did the bravest thing this summer!!! 3. We walked from Yuainomori to N's yard!! The distance was about seven kilometers. It was noon, and the sun was strong, but the wind was cool. The navigation gave us a route that first went through the fields, then along National Route 369 (or maybe a prefectural road, I'm not sure), across the Naka River, and kept going. 4. The scenery along the way was fantastic. The forests of Nasushiobara are very pristine, and there are many pastures with cows everywhere. It was a unique experience! It felt very good overall.

Upon entering the hotel, I was greeted by a bright and simple reception desk. The staff, with smiles on their faces, proactively welcomed guests and provided prompt and friendly check-in service. Then I went to my room. Upon opening the door, a sense of tranquility and comfort instantly washed over me. The room layout was spacious and comfortable, and the bright floor-to-ceiling windows and minimalist furniture exuded refinement and taste. In terms of hotel facilities, everything from the bathroom amenities to the basic infrastructure, such as Wi-Fi, was excellent. The shower facilities, in particular, provided ample hot water at a stable temperature, allowing me to fully relax after a tiring day. In terms of service, I was impressed by the professionalism and enthusiastic service of the hotel staff. Everyone, from the reception staff to the cleaning staff, served guests with smiles and enthusiasm.

#japantrip The Hunter Mountain Shiobara is a small ski resort but very well run with an efficient rental service (though a times chaotic when it is crowded). There chair lifts and ropeways are fast as well. The ski resort is effectively separated into two main areas one served by the Gondola and the other with a Quad Lift. The areas served by the Gondola goes to the top and have black slopes continuing into red slopes. While the Quad Lift connects to the beginner and intermediate slopes. The beginner slopes here are almost flat which might not provide much kick. The intermediate slopes are similar to a steeper blue slopes in an Austrian or German ski resort or a harder beginner slope in Zao Onsen, which are more fun to ride. Due to its size, a day trip is enough and you get rewarded with nice views of the mountains of Nasu Kogen. However, the lift tickets are rentals are definitely not one of the cheapest when compared to other ski resorts in Japan such as Yuzawa, Nozawa or Zao for the value its gives. You can find some web discounts online to reduce the cost. On weekdays, the parking is free but public holidays and weekends meant a 1000 JPY flat fee parking fee. There is a shuttle bus service between the resort and NasuShiobara station but it departs at 8-9 am and returns at 4-5 pm, which would limit your itinerary if you want to only do a half day visit. The ski resort is managed and run by Tokyu Snow Resorts and developed by the folks behind Hunter Mountain, New York in the US thus the runs are named "Broadway", "Sesami St.", "Park Avenue" etc.
