All Moments About Mashiko
[Tochigi Prefecture/Kashima Shrine] I'm glad I went in 2023! Shrines in Tochigi Prefecture ⑤
Kashima Shrine is located in Mashiko Town, Haga County, Tochigi Prefecture.
The main shrine is Kashima Jingu Shrine in Ibaraki Prefecture.
The enshrined deity is
Takemikazuchi no Mikoto.
He is a god who negotiated with Okuninushi no Mikoto to hand over the country at the command of Amaterasu Omikami, and is said to bring good fortune in military affairs because he fought against Takeminakata no Kami, his son, and won the battle.
It was founded in 846 during the reign of Emperor Ninmyo.
In 1606, Tokugawa Ieyasu gave the shrine a black seal as a ritual fee, and in 1658, the third shogun, Tokugawa Iemitsu, gave it a red seal of seven koku of land!
As it is the god of military affairs, it was impressive to see the character for "victory"!

[Tochigi] Mashiko Pottery Street, Jounaizaka Recommended Shop No. 2 "Moegi Jounaizaka Store"
Mashiko ware, a traditional craft that Tochigi Prefecture is proud of
The Mashiko Pottery Market held on the main street, Jonaizaka, is famous, but Jonaizaka is also lined with many Mashiko ware galleries and shops where you can find your favorite pottery at other times of the year.
The most recommended one is this 🌟
◆Moegi Jonaizaka Store
We deal with artists from Mashiko Town, mainly pottery, glass, woodwork, dyeing, etc.
The store has three floors, including a mezzanine floor, and has an open atrium! Works are lined up everywhere.
Some of the designs are so innovative that you don't know how to use them!
Solo exhibitions and special exhibitions are held on a two-week cycle, so it's also nice to visit as if you were in a museum ✨

[Tochigi] "Mori no Restaurant" - a house nestled in the forest
As the name suggests, we had lunch at Mori no Restaurant (Mashiko no Chaya No. 3), which is quietly located in the forest of Mashiko Town, Tochigi Prefecture. 😋
It was hard to find at first, as it seemed to be hidden away in nature. We finally managed to reach it after going back and forth along the same path several times.
We visited at lunchtime, but it was very popular and crowded, so reservations are a must!
Lunch also comes with an assortment of appetizers. We each ordered a different main dish, and they were all really delicious💕
They also pay attention to the tableware, and even the cups at the drink bar were Mashiko ware!
On warm days, it would be nice to take a walk through the adjacent wildflower garden after dinner☀️

[Tochigi] Roadside Station Mashiko is full of original products
A roadside station recommended by a friend from Tochigi Prefecture, "Roadside Station Mashiko"
There were lots of delicious looking things lined up, including fresh locally grown vegetables and fruits, as well as juices, jams, pickles, and more that use them 🥰
There was also a wide selection of condiments, so it was hard to choose ✨
Don't forget to bring a big eco bag when you go!
Apparently you can also go strawberry picking in the winter 🍓
Check out the official website for more details!

A pottery cafe in Mashiko Town with a retro atmosphere, run by Yokoyama, a Mashiko pottery manufacturer
They serve lunch on large Mashiko pottery plates and homemade sweets
You can choose your favorite ceramic cup for the drink bar
They have a wide variety of coffee, and the coffee was especially delicious
They use carefully selected beans that are finely ground and freshly ground
Payment is done in advance, so you first look at the menu in front of the register, order, pay, and then you are shown to your seat
They also serve children's lunches, so it's a cafe that's easy to use even with children

"Kasamashiko" certified as a Japanese Heritage
Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and Mashiko Town, Tochigi Prefecture, which are leading pottery-producing areas in eastern Japan, have been in the same cultural sphere since ancient times due to their pottery industry and rulers.
Today, there are over 600 active potters.
The Mashiko Ceramic Art Museum exhibits works by Living National Treasures Shoji Hamada and Tatsuzo Shimaoka.
In addition, the thatched mansion built in the late Edo period where Shoji Hamada lived has been relocated and opened to the public.
The climbing kiln that he used during his lifetime has been relocated and restored.

[Tochigi Prefecture] A shrine full of turtles
Kameoka Hachiman Shrine ⛩️
𓂃◌𓈒𓐍 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃
This shrine is located in the woods adjacent to the Oyake Tomb Group.
After passing through the impressive torii gate, a long approach continues.
After climbing a few steps and seeing the main shrine building,
there are rows of turtles dedicated here and there!
They are lined up like a turtle approach to the shrine.
There are turtles on the guardian lions and turtles on the temizuya (purification fountain).
The shrine is surrounded by trees and is a place rich in nature.
It seems that the cherry blossoms are also famous.

Tochigi Mashiko Ishinokura Pizza
Mashiko ware is famous in Tochigi. The pizza at Tsukamoto's stone storehouse is delicious. It's nice to eat in the Oya stone storehouse, but it's also nice to eat in the tatami room next door. #Tochigi

Mashiko Town🌸A single cherry tree standing along the river🌸
A single cherry tree along the Kokai River in Mashiko Town, Haga District, Tochigi Prefecture.
Having returned from overseas for the first time in eight years, I was moved by the sight of so many beautiful cherry trees.
The many rows of cherry trees in Japan were also impressive.
But this single cherry tree gave me a sense of strength and the anticipation of its future growth.
The day I took this photo, the sky was beautiful and blue...
I never thought the pale pink color would go so well with the clear blue sky.
This is one of my wonderful memories of this spring.
