Matala Beach - Crete Island, Greece
Matala beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Crete. Sometimes it is also called "Hippie Beach" due to the fact that in the 60s it was chosen by young people of this subculture. Hippies flew to the island from all over the world and settled right in the ancient caves on the beach. After some time, the locals, led by Bishop Gortinis, drove out most of the visitors, but the name remained. At that time, Matala was visited by such celebrities as Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Janis Joplin.
The beach has a length of 250 meters, a width of 45 meters.
Matala is a sandy beach with a gentle entry into the water. Great for families with small children. Umbrellas and sun loungers are about €2 each. In the village around the beach there are many taverns where national dishes are prepared.

Matala beach Crete 🏖️

Matala Beach in Crete is a true paradise on Earth. Nestled along the southern coast, its golden sands and crystal-clear waters are nothing short of mesmerizing. I visited Matala last summer, and the experience was unforgettable. The unique rock formations, once home to ancient caves, provide an intriguing backdrop to the beach.
The relaxed atmosphere and friendly locals make it an ideal destination for both relaxation and exploration. I spent hours swimming in the azure sea, and the nearby village offered delicious Greek cuisine. Matala's hippie history adds to its charm, with remnants of the '60s era still visible.
Whether you seek tranquility or adventure, Matala Beach in Crete has it all, making it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a slice of paradise. #ukcreator #greece #crete

Agiofarago Beach - Crete Island, Greece
Agiofarago is a sandy and pebble beach located in a small bay in the south of Crete, about 82 km from the city of Heraklion. Agiofarago is translated from Greek as the Holy Gorge. And the beach is the end of this gorge.
Agiofarago beach is not equipped, nearby is the Church of St. Anthony, so naturism is prohibited here. There is a spring near the church, but there is not always water in it. Therefore, if you are planning to relax on the beach, be sure to bring water and a snack with you. Also, please note that there are no trees on the beach, so it is better to take a sun umbrella with you.
You can get to Agiofarago beach either by walking through the gorge or by boat from Agia Galini, Matala or Kali Limenes.
