Rome, souvenir shop window and night cafe
#overseastravel #italytrip #ROMA #coupletrip
A souvenir shop in Rome on a trip to Italy in the spring of 2018.
When I went to eat dinner at a cafe terrace near the hotel at night, the purple lights in the souvenir shop's window caught my eye, and when I looked closer, I saw many souvenir statues of Mary, large and small, of various sizes, and all of the statues of Mary in various poses were beautiful.
I had pasta and pizza for dinner, and on the way home, I found pizza, ice cream, and magnets of tourist attractions that were very cheap, so I bought them all as souvenirs and bought bread for dinner at the cafe next door.
The cityscape at night was a very calm atmosphere with stone buildings and no signs or lights, but there were many people eating on the terrace seats at the cafe terrace, and there were many people walking around, so all the stores were lively.

Ravenna 🔶 Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo
#Overseas Travel
Make a special trip to Ravenna to admire the breathtaking mosaics.
The Basilica di Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, which was built in the early 6th century and is very close to the train station, was the first attraction of my "mosaic tour".
As soon as you enter, you will see that almost all the walls of the church hall are decorated with mosaics, and there are stunning masterpieces of mosaic art all around, dating back to the 6th century.
The characters in the mosaics are mainly prophets, saints, the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus. The patterns are very detailed and the characters are lifelike! Some of the paintings also depict biblical events.

See the most beautiful churches in Italy in Ravenna!
Ravenna, a small town hidden in the Emilia-Romagna region, was once the capital of the Western Roman Empire and a treasure house of Byzantine art in the West. Unlock all the Byzantine churches in Ravenna in one sentence: Ravenna Tour Package!
🌟Must-visit attractions recommended
1. Basilica di San Vitale
This church is a sixth-century building, with golden Jesus, green forests, and majestic figures like an emperor. It seems like a three-dimensional projection of the Middle Ages. The most famous are the mosaics of Emperor Justinian the Great and Queen Theodora. Their sacred eyes seem to be looking into your eyes, and a thousand years of time are frozen in an instant.
2. Mausoleo di Galla Placidia Here you will find a "blue starry sky" that is a thousand years older than Van Gogh!
Inside the small building, the blue mosaic starry sky and the golden cross on the ceiling complement each other. Walking in, it feels like being in the universe in an instant, and one unconsciously slows down one's steps for fear of disturbing the tranquility and sacredness.
3. Basilica di Sant'Apollinare Nuovo
On the long walls on both sides are grand Byzantine mosaics: on one side is the "Procession of Martyrs" and on the other side is the "Procession of Saints". They walk quietly towards Christ, looking particularly solemn against the golden background.
This church is like a "time corridor" in Ravenna, recording the artistic evolution from the Gothic period to the Byzantine period.
4. Sant'Apollinare in Classe
The most amazing thing is the mosaic in the apse: green grass, twelve sheep and the transfiguration scene of Jesus, the colors are so bright that they don't seem like works of art from thousands of years ago!
5. Archdiocesan Museum (Museo Arcivescovile)
This museum is a treasure trove of Ravenna's historical and religious art, especially masterpieces from the Byzantine period.
Must-see: Cattedra d'Avorio: This 6th-century ivory bishop's throne is one of the most famous ivory carvings in the world, with exquisite carvings depicting a large number of religious scenes.
Cross: The cross decorations collected in the museum combine gold, silver and mosaic craftsmanship, showing the solemnity and sacredness of medieval church art.
💰Travel Tips: Package Guide💰
Package price: about 10-12 euros (specific price depends on the site).
Package content: Includes 5 famous attractions including the Basilica of St. Vitus, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, and the New Basilica of St. Apollinaire.
Where to buy: You can buy it at the entrance of major attractions, or book it in advance on the official website.

For the love of Mosaics
There are people I know who skipped Ravenna altogether because nothing that they read or saw over the internet excited them much. You see sometimes you have to allow places time. The way i felt after i arrived in Ravenna and the day touring those brilliant mosaics, some of which are over a thousand years old. You'd have no doubt that Ravenna should be part of your trip.
Another challenge tends to be for those seeking a day trip alternative that this region is somewhat far from your Rome, venice or Florence. To which I'd say if you have the time why not come stay a night or two and then steer your trip with other advantages of this location.
You can very easily devote an entire day to walking around to all the churches. Another relaxing day can be spent appreciating the mosaics and trying out food and culinary offerings. I would even recommend indulging in some cycling around the old town. I assure you this will be a great experience. None of that street people, sellers and marketers bother you like in bigger cities.

Mausoleum of Theodoric 🇮🇹
#myhiddengems
During my summer vacation, I had the chance to visit the Mausoleum of Theodoric in Ravenna, Italy, and it was a fascinating experience! 🏛️🌟 Located just outside the city center, this ancient tomb, built in the 6th century, is a remarkable example of early Byzantine architecture. The entrance fee is about €5, which I felt was quite reasonable for such a historically significant site.
The mausoleum stands out with its impressive circular structure and the massive stone dome, offering a glimpse into the grandeur of Theodoric the Great’s reign. The interior is relatively simple but intriguing, and it’s surrounded by a serene park that's perfect for a leisurely walk. Nearby, Ravenna boasts other historical treasures, like the stunning Basilica di San Vitale and the Basilica of Sant'Apollonia in Classe, both of which are well worth a visit. 🌟📜
If you’re in Ravenna, the Mausoleum of Theodoric is a must-see for history buffs and those interested in ancient architecture.

Ravenna is a city in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy with a population of 159,404. Ravenna is not on the sea, but it can be connected to the Adriatic Sea by a canal. Ravenna was once the capital of the Western Roman Empire and the Ostrogothic Kingdom, and is now the capital of the Province of Ravenna. It's just that my hometown is famous for its early Christian monuments, the World Heritage Site.

To Rome to eat gelato~🍦
I visited Rome in May!
The weather was really nice at that time, so it was perfect for traveling~
So there were really a lot of tourists..
There were so many people at the Trevi Fountain in particular, but I couldn't even take a proper picture🥲 So if you want to take a picture in front of the Trevi Fountain, go there at 7 in the morning! So if you want to take a picture, please keep this in mind!
Also, as expected from Rome, the land of gelato, there were a lot of gelato shops in front of tourist attractions, but I just went into any one and bought some haha
But there was no failure! It was really delicious no matter where you went~~!! 🤤
Did you know that in Italy, you can have 1 gelato a day?
Have a nice trip everyone~🫶

Basilica of San Vitale Ravenna 🏛️
#timetotravel
The Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna, Italy, is an architectural gem that left an indelible mark on me. Its exquisite Byzantine design and remarkable mosaics are a testament to the artistry of a bygone era.
Upon entering, I was immediately struck by the resplendent mosaics that adorned the walls and ceilings. The intricate scenes depicting biblical stories and the stunning depiction of Emperor Justinian and Empress Theodora are nothing short of breathtaking.
The basilica's octagonal shape and elegant design create a sense of harmony and symmetry that adds to its allure. The play of light on the golden mosaics throughout the day enhances the spiritual atmosphere.
San Vitale is a place where history, art, and spirituality converge, offering a glimpse into the rich heritage of Ravenna and the Byzantine world. It's a must-visit for anyone with an appreciation for art and history. #italy #ravenna
