[2025 Hobart Attraction] Travel Guide for Mawson's Huts Replica Museum (Updated Mar)

#2月好地方2025 Mawson's Huts Replica Museum is located on the Hobart waterfront, close to the dock where the SY Aurora sailed south to Antarctica. It is a tribute to Douglas Mawson, the pioneer of Australian Antarctic exploration (Douglas Mawson ~ led the Australian Antarctic AAE Expedition from 1911 to 1914). The unique museum building itself is an exact replica of an original hut built in Antarctica, giving a realistic understanding of the harsh conditions of the cold and blizzards that early explorers faced. Inside, the museum provides an immersive and detailed look at life inside the cabin, showcasing artifacts, tools and stories from Mawson’s legendary expeditions.

#weekendgetaways Small museum but very interesting and cheap to see. We only had a few hours in Hobart and this was a great place to go, very easy to find and near lots of other main attractions, shops and the cruise ship terminal. Staff were really friendly and keen to share their knowledge too, and there's a small gift shop section in the reception. Got through it comfortably in about an hour or so, but if you stopped to read everything in detail you could probably spend a bit longer.

#australiatrip Fantastic experience, to see how those early expeditioners battled the elements to etch out their place in history is phenomenal. Great detail in the building, some great original pieces inside and just fantastic to look back at yesteryear, touch feel and see how they lived. I personally was surprised at how young the majority of the expedition party were.
