梅溪湖公园 or Mei Xi Hu park, Changsha. Not indicated in travel guides but easily to be spotted when looking at the Changsha map viewed as a big water-green dot, this place left a unforgettable impressions! Free to enter, this is the area of tens of kilometers for promenade around small lake and also containing different interesting parts like futuristic yower for climbing, sandy beach for children, green carpet to take a sit and lunch on the grounds and numerous of installations. The place is truly a film killer to make a pictures. Best place for shooting in Changsha.

The Wellesley isn't particularly large, but it has the character of a boutique hotel. Maintaining its own style in a homogenized market shows rare taste. The hotel features many abstract art pieces that don't adhere to specific patterns or images, but instead emphasize color blocks, shapes, textures, and patterns—a sophisticated aesthetic. The selection of furniture and lighting shows thoughtful consideration, with hardly any conventional pieces, opting instead for design-forward, unique styles. The hotel's location away from the Wuyi Square commercial area and beside Meixi Lake is its advantage: while some prefer bustling downtown areas, others enjoy the tranquility of lakeside settings. Meixi Lake is one of Changsha's rare peaceful areas, where many locals walk, cycle, and chat along the lakeside paths, creating a warm atmosphere of contented living. Taking a stroll by the lake to enjoy the breeze is an integral part of the entire hotel experience.

Spent two days in Changsha and somehow ended up walking 40km total (not on purpose, but here we are). If you’re planning to visit, here’s a breakdown of what I did and what you might want to check out: ⸻ 📍 Itinerary Overview 🚶♂️ Total Distance Covered: 40km in 2 days (yes, my legs hate me). 🗓 Day 1: Hunan Museum → Mt. Yuelu → Taiping Street 🗓 Day 2: Meixi Lake → Orange Island (walked the entire way to the Mao Zedong statue and back—took 2+ hours). ⸻ 🚩 Sightseeing Route 🔹 Hunan Museum – A deep dive into Hunan’s history, with artifacts and exhibitions that I wish I understood better (learn Chinese, seriously). 🔹 Mt. Yuelu – Beautiful mountain with temples, pavilions, and killer views. Worth the hike. 🔹 Taiping Street – Changsha’s bustling old town area, filled with snacks, souvenirs, and a million people. 🔹 Meixi Lake – A modern, scenic lake area, great for a chill walk. 🔹 Orange Island – Famous for its giant Mao Zedong statue. Walked from the entrance to Mao and back—2+ hours of my life I wasn’t ready for. ⸻ 🚇 Transportation Took cabs and the metro when necessary, but clearly, I also walked an unreasonable amount. Public transport is super convenient, but somehow I always ended up on foot. 📷 Photo Spots 📍 Mt. Yuelu – Perfect views of the city 📍 Orange Island – The massive Mao statue is a must-see 📍 Taiping Street – Old-style architecture + neon signs at night = great contrast 🍜 Local Cuisine I didn’t do a food, I just ate some skewers but Changsha is famous for spicy food. If you like heat, stinky tofu and Hunan-style barbecue are everywhere. 🏠 Accommodation I stayed at One Corner Pool Hotel, which was a solid choice for a comfortable stay with an amazing private pool. 💡 Tips (aka What I Learned the Hard Way): ✔️ Expect to walk. A lot. Even if you don’t plan to. ✔️ Orange Island is huge. If you don’t want to walk 2+ hours round-trip, take the sightseeing car to Mao. ✔️ Hunan food is spicy. Even if they say it’s “mild.” Don’t trust them. Final thoughts: Changsha is a mix of history, modern city life, and endless walking. #meixilake Meixi Lake is a must-visit in Changsha! The mix of modern design and serene landscapes is stunning. The park is vast, covering an area of about 120 acres, and is themed around lake views; it faces Taohualing Park across the lake. The park features rivers, lakes, natural landscapes, and is a man-made wetland park; it is equipped with pedestrian walkways, lighting, trestle bridges, landscape pavilions, and landscaped green belts. The environment is beautiful, with good greening, fresh air, and the fragrance of birds and flowers. Meixi Lake Park is full of flowers in all seasons, with shady trees that are refreshing to the soul. Walking by the lake is a great choice, and it is also an ideal place for cycling enthusiasts to ride around the lake. Next to it is the Cultural Arts Center, with its unique and charming architectural style. The buildings are shaped like beautiful lotus flowers blooming on the banks of Meixi Lake, where the era and art blend perfectly. I visited another great Thai SPA 🙋 The ancient Thai method is truly exceptional‼️ After the massage, I felt completely relaxed This place must be well-known since I also heard about it from recommendations by friends 🏠 It's a standalone Thai SPA villa at Meixi Lake 🙈 Longtaihe‼️ It has an underground parking lot which is quite convenient 🌅 The whole villa even has two peacocks 💆 There's also a small pavilion in the backyard where you can directly view the scenery of Meixi Lake 🏄🏻 The environment is really beyond words Recently, I've been standing for work and shooting things 😷 My back and sciatic nerve pain were unbearable ✔️ So I chose the ancient Thai massage 🙋 It's really more effective than a personal trainer's stretching 😷 However, I would still recommend essential oil massage for those trying Thai SPA for the first time After the massage, they even served mango pudding which I really liked because of its creamy taste 🚙 When I was leaving, they gave me a small fragrant sachet which I now hang in my car‼️ It smells amazing

An imposing architectural masterpiece designed by the late Zaha Hadid, the Meixihu Cultural Art Centre looks like an alien spaceship. It's in the West side of the Xiangjiang River in Changsha, and is an easy taxi ride from Yuelu Mountain, so combine them both for a full days sightseeing covering old and new, nature and city. Afterwards, head back across the river to Huangxing pedestrian street for some delectable Hunan street food, and finish the night bar hopping on Jiefang West Street until the early hours.
