The story of Justice Bao is basically known to everyone, right? Bao Zheng, Gongsun Ce, Zhan Zhao, Zhang Long, Zhao Hu, Wang Chao, Ma Han, these names basically accompanied many childhood TV dramas 😁, and various versions of Bao Gong's stories emerged in an endless stream. When I came to Kaifeng Prefecture, Bao Gong Temple was one of the must-visit attractions on my itinerary. Kaifeng Bao Gong Temple was actually restored and rebuilt to commemorate Bao Zheng, a famous honest official and political reformer in ancient China. It is located on the shore of Bao Gong Lake. It consists of three parts: the main exhibition area, the garden area, and the functional service area. The area is not particularly large. The main exhibition area has the main hall, the second hall, the east and west side halls, the corridor, the stele pavilion, the main gate, the second gate, etc., displaying the bronze statue of Bao Gong, the bronze guillotine and the wax statue of Bao Gong's judgment, Bao Gong's historical materials and books, "Kaifeng Prefecture Title Record Stele", inscriptions, etc., and also displays some film and television drama materials related to Bao Gong. We spent about an hour walking around. In 960 AD, Zhao Kuangyin, the founding emperor of the Northern Song Dynasty, extinguished the Later Zhou and established the Song Dynasty, making Kaifeng the capital, hence Kaifeng Mansion was known as 'the premier prefecture in the world'. 4. Main Hall. This is the part of the authentic history, with the four bold characters 'Upright and Bright' exuding a sense of righteousness. In the center is a sitting statue of Bao Gong, over 3 meters tall, weighing 2.5 tons. Historical relics are displayed on both sides of the Bao Gong sitting statue, including bowls, cups, wooden figurines, and ordinary inkstones unearthed from Bao Gong's tomb. The gable wall is inlaid with colored pottery murals reflecting Bao Gong's political achievements, with dragon and phoenix patterns on the edges of the murals. 5. Ling Shi Garden. The Bao Gong Temple was built to commemorate the famous ancient official Bao Zheng, (the current temple was rebuilt in the 1980s, and it feels like there's nothing of historical value inside), the Bao Gong Temple was originally established during the Jin and Yuan dynasties, and has been repaired through the Ming and Qing dynasties, with a history of nearly a thousand years. Da Xiangguo Temple 🪔Da Xiangguo Temple is one of the iconic buildings in Kaifeng. During the Song Dynasty, it was the largest temple in the capital and the center of Buddhist activities nationwide. In addition to the Bell and Drum Towers, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, and the Mahavira Hall, the most worthwhile sight is the octagonal glazed hall (also known as the Arhat Hall) and the statue of the Thousand-Handed and Thousand-Eyed Guanyin Bodhisattva within it, which is the treasure of Da Xiangguo Temple. Due to the sacredness of the Buddha statue, photography was not permitted, but both the materials and the craftsmanship are nothing short of miraculous. 🎫There is a joint ticket for Da Xiangguo Temple and Kaifeng Mansion available on Ctrip, but it's not much cheaper than buying them separately.
