Passing through the historic Eastgate, I admired the ornate Eastgate Clock, one of the most photographed in England. From there, I explored the Roman Amphitheatre, once a grand arena for gladiator battles, and the nearby Roman Gardens, where ancient columns and mosaics told stories of Chester’s past. The heart of the city, The Rows, was unlike anything I had seen before—elevated, half-timbered galleries filled with boutique shops, creating a unique blend of medieval and modern charm. Chester Cathedral, with its intricate carvings and soaring Gothic architecture, offered a peaceful retreat, and climbing the bell tower rewarded me with stunning views over the rooftops. A stroll along the River Dee led me to the picturesque Old Dee Bridge and the tranquil Grosvenor Park, where I paused to take in the serenity of the surroundings. As evening set in, I joined a ghost tour, uncovering the eerie legends and haunted past of this ancient city. Chester’s blend of Roman, medieval, and Tudor history, combined with its vibrant atmosphere, made it a captivating destination. It was a place where history wasn’t just preserved—it was alive in every street, wall, and whisper of the past.

Attractions - From Roman remains to bars and restaurants, this buzzing university town has everything you need to keep you interested. The canals are stacked up with old canal boats, the high street has the latest fashion, and th cathedral is a marvel. The Parent Agency at Storyhouse Chester was amazing. A really fun show and perfect for both kids and adults. Theatre is in the center of town so ideal to get to and very big, modern and comfortable inside. All the cast were incredible and the set and costumes were a spectacle. Really recommend seeing the show if it comes back as it was the last show today! A great day out in Chester.

As Travelodge hotels go they are usually the cheaper more budget option for travelers and my stay at Chester Central was no exception , a comfortable stay was ruined by the fact a Nightclub , just below the hotel pumps out dance music to the early hours , which did affect my ability to relax and sleep during my stay , shame really as the hotel is in a great central location with Chester Train Station and Chester Zoo only a 15 minute walk away . Other local landmarks include , St John the Baptist Church and the Eastgate Clock just around the corner as well as nearby bars and restaurants and the main shopping area. With standard plus and standard rooms all featuring comfy double or twin beds , TV and tea and coffee making facilities as well as en-suite bathrooms your stay will be a comfortable one , the Reception is also 24hr with friendly staff and you can grab a to go breakfast also available at reception. Parking is available at the nearby Pepper Street CarPark and check in is from 3pm and checkout before 12pm (noon) My summing up and thoughts about my stay at Chester Central Travelodge …, budget friendly and a comfortable and clean stay with friendly staff in a very central location let down by bustling nightlife , so if your on a budget and need a hotel bang in the centre of Chester it’s a great choice but bring your headphones as you might not get much sleep!😴 💤
