[2025 Jeongseon-gun Attraction] Travel Guide for Mindungsan (Updated Jul)

Experience climbing the hottest Mindungsan mountain in Korea in summer 2025. Mindungsan (민둥산) is one of the beautiful and unique mountains in Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon Province, Korea. I find it beautiful in all four seasons. In summer, there is a cool green grass carpet, in autumn there is a large grass hill, in winter it is a bit difficult to climb because of the snow. I just climbed here in mid-June, the grass started to turn green and the morning scenery was almost like hunting clouds. The Mindungsan climbing trail is not too steep or difficult, only about 3.8 km to the top (1.5 - 2 hours of walking). There are 2 climbing paths, 1 path is densely forested, the other is a concrete road, the road goes through a village where people live, small cars can enter and park in the middle of the mountain, so it is quite quick to climb to the top. The special thing about Mindungsan is that there is a lake in the middle, creating a harmonious combination of clouds, mountains and lake surface. We climbed from 12am, until we reached the top at around 4am, because we were driving a big car and traveling at night, so we went slower. But the road is quite easy to travel, suitable for newbies. #summervacay Mindungsan in Jeongseon? Pure mountain magic. It’s not your typical rocky, tree-covered peak, instead, it’s this wide, open hilltop covered in grass that just waves at you in the wind. Super chill hike too. The path is easy to follow and not too crazy on the legs, so it’s perfect for a laid-back adventure. As you get higher, the views start opening up, layered mountains in every direction, and when the wind kicks in, it’s like the whole hill is alive. I went on a breezy day and honestly just stood there like, “Whoa.” Nature really popped off with this one. At the top, there’s this peaceful, wide-open space with almost nothing blocking the view. I flopped down in the grass and just soaked up the silence (with a snack, of course). Golden hour here? Unreal. If you want something simple, pretty, and kinda poetic, Mindungsan hits the spot. No stress, just soft trails and sky. Loved it!

The trail isn’t super steep, so it’s perfect for when you want to get outside but don’t want your legs screaming at you later. Plus, it’s way less crowded than the big famous peaks, which is a huge win. The views from the top? Pretty chill but solid, rolling hills, forests, and that fresh mountain air that makes you feel like you just hit the reset button on life. We spotted some cute wildflowers and a few squirrels along the way, which was a nice bonus. Definitely pack some snacks and water because there aren’t many spots to buy stuff nearby. Also, bring comfy shoes and maybe a jacket, ‘cause it can get breezy up there. If you want a relaxed day out in nature without all the fuss, Mindungsan is your go-to. Super laid-back and totally worth it.

Jeongseon Mindungsan! I felt like climbing a mountain last week, maybe because I visited Jeju Island. Doline, which looks like a volcanic crater on Mindungsan What is this if it's nature?! A strange karst topography that's neatly cut! The sky and clouds reflected in the water in the doline look like an oil painting. After hiking, you must have Gondre Jeon and Makgeolli🐢🩷 Turtle shelter under Mindungsan Mountain, open 365 days a year‼️ We went on a weekday, so we were the only ones there!! If you want to enjoy leisurely, I recommend this place✨ Must try Gondre Jeon, Acorn Jelly, and Gondre Makgeolli! (The acorn jelly is really crazy,,,😭) They also served the king's vegetable, as a side dish :) My friend couldn't drink a bottle of makgeolli with me because he was driving, so it was a shame, but it was nice that there was 🍶 The owner even brought me a makgeolli bottle as a prop for taking pictures🫶🏻🧡 ✅I went around the Turtle Shelter-left hiking-summit-Balgudeok Village recommended by the owner of Turtle Medicine Spring Shelter (2 hours and 20 minutes round trip + time to take pictures and rest) Balgudeok🔛The summit is an easier course, but the direction from Turtle Shelter to the left is a lot more beautiful, so I recommend going around once!!🔄 ✅It's inside the women's restroom (make sure to take off your shoes before going in) ⚠️There's also a dog, Sanha, and a cat (The dog is big, so don't touch it. Mindungsan is very famous for its autumn reeds! It's nice to go in the green summer, but I also recommend a course to see reeds in the cool autumn. It's a convenient travel course because you can go by train! This is a representative mountain of fall reeds and railroad hiking. Mindungsan is 1,119m above sea level, which is quite high for beginners, but it is divided into courses based on difficulty, so beginners or those who have never hiked before can do it. The middle of the mountain is covered with thick forests, but when you reach the top, the atmosphere changes completely to a bare mountain with an open view in all directions! I wanted to see the snow-covered Mindungsan, so I climbed it at the end of February, but there was still a lot of snow. Thanks to that, it was a really tough hike, but it was worth it, and the scenery was beautiful at the end of February! I rode the Jeongseon Arirang Train to Mindungsan. It was great to travel by train after such a long time, and the train with its open view was also great. The silver grass on Mindungsan was frozen and sparkling, which was a spectacular sight. It was a great trip.
