[2025 Shaoxing Stay] Travel Guide for Mirror Lake Hotel (Updated May)

I stayed at Mirror Lake Hotel during National week and had a lovely time there. I chose this hotel for its proximity to the Keyan Scenic Area which is literally behind, a 5-10 mins walk from to the entrance! The hotel is surrounded by greenery and the atmosphere is quiet and peaceful! You can stroll around and find some benches and swings to chill! 🌿 My room was spacious and very clean! The bathroom surprisingly also had a bathtub 🛁 and free toiletries such as bath salts, shower gel, shampoo, toilet paper and amenities such as towels, hair dryer, magnifying mirror… When you check in, you’re given a mini pouch with toothpaste, toothbrush, cotton pads and buds and a comb. The bed was soft and comfy! You’re also provided with water bottles, black tea, green tea, instant coffee & sugar. They also offer a plate fo fruits every day as well as a small bowl of soup every evening. The room is cleaned every day. There’s also a small balcony. The breakfast buffet is a mix of mostly Chinese and western options. I believe there’s so much variety for everyone. Breakfast was included in my booking and I’d recommend it as there aren’t many options around. KFC, Starbucks and a few Chinese restaurants are at the entrance of the scenic area, but that’s pretty much it. There’s a guy who stands by the entrance of the hotel and is pretty much the only one who speaks English. He’s very helpful and will guide you all the way to your room 👍🏼 I was also offered a goodie bag upon checkout with some Shaoxing specialities 😊 I’ll defo recommend this hotel for a getaway in a quiet environment or if visiting the Keyan Scenic Area is your main priority. Otherwise, downtown Shaoxing is about 20-30 mins by taxi 🚕. I went to Shaoxing once on a day trip, but had no idea about this wonderful place until I stumbled on pictures of it! The Keyan Scenic Area is HUGE! It consists of three parts: 1️⃣ Tiangong Stone Buddha 2️⃣ Jianhu Scenic Area 3️⃣ Luzhen old town I went there during National week and made sure to arrive as early as possible, up to booking a hotel nearby. I started with the Tiangong Budhha which is where most people flock! The Stone Buddha was very impressive 👌🏼 The atmosphere was so calm and peaceful 😌 until the crowd arrived an hour later. There’s also relics, colorful paintings depicting history and temples. As you walk further, you’ll reach the Jian Lake Scenic area which was so picturesque with mountains and nature as backdrop! Wupeng boats native to Shaoxing on the lake were so charming! The entrance ticket includes 2 boat rides. The first will take you to a small island which felt rather plain. There was a restaurant, yellow wine sellers and a glass bridge which required an extra 20¥. I just walked to the exit where I caught the other boat taking tourists to Luxun’s old town. Luxun’s old town was lovely! There were restaurants with local dishes, a small museum, live Chinese old songs, souvenir shops and Jiangnan Style water canals with cobblestone pathways! It was relaxing to wander around and get some snaps 📸 The entrance ticket is expensive, but worth it! It also includes the boat rides. Entrance 🎫: 130¥ How to go ➡️Keyan Scenic Area, 柯岩风景区 I stayed at Mirror Lake hotel which is a 5 -10 min walk to the entrance. There’s a metro line connecting Shaoxing line 1 to Hangzhou line 5 which was a convenient option for me coming from Hangzhou. Preparation - Documents: Bring your ID card and other potentially necessary documents (such as student ID, senior citizen card, etc., to get corresponding discounts). - Clothing: It's recommended to bring light and comfortable clothes. For spring and autumn, prepare a light jacket; for summer, protect yourself from the sun; for winter, keep warm. - Items: Mobile phone, camera, charger, power bank, umbrella or raincoat, etc. Transportation Guide - First arrive at Shaoxing North Station, then take a taxi or bus to the scenic area. If choosing public transportation, take Metro Line 1 from Shaoxing North Station to China Textile City Station, then transfer to a tourist shuttle bus to Keqiao Ancient Town. To visit Jian Lake, take a taxi or bus from near Keqiao Ancient Town to Keyan Scenic Area, as Jian Lake is part of the Keyan Scenic Area. Attractions - Jian Lake: Start by strolling along the White Jade Causeway, where the thousand-year-old ancient towpath extends to the center of the lake, perfect for photos. Then head to Gourd Drunk Island to learn about the story of Goujian "offering wine to reward his troops." Don't forget to taste the yellow rice wine ice cream on the island. You can also take a painted boat across Jian Lake to enjoy the vast lake view, as if you're in a traditional Chinese ink painting. - Keqiao Ancient Town: In the early morning, visit Rongguang Bridge to experience the poetic scene of mist covering the river and black-awning boats gently passing by. In the morning, wear Hanfu (traditional Chinese clothing) on the ancient towpath for photos, experiencing the feeling of "walking in a painting." In the afternoon, try bamboo weaving DIY and other activities at Keqiao Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, and hunt for antiques and take Instagram-worthy photos at the Cultural Plants and Flowers City. In the evening, enjoy the colorful water mist show, with the best viewing spot under Yongfeng Bridge. You can also take a night tour on a black-awning boat, traveling through the mist and neon lights while listening to the boatwoman singing Shaoxing folk songs. Special Cuisine - Jian Lake Scenic Area: "Xunbaoji" Shaoxing cuisine near Lu Town is worth trying, with yellow rice wine pudding and preserved vegetable braised pork as must-order dishes. The yellow rice wine ice cream in Jian Lake Scenic Area also has a unique flavor. - Keqiao Ancient Town: "Sun Yuanxing" stinky tofu on Xiashitou Street, with a five-generation heritage of brine soaking technique, is crispy outside and tender inside. Yellow rice wine milk tea on Cangqiao Street offers a slightly intoxicating taste with milk fragrance, more authentic when paired with fennel beans. There's also the intangible cultural heritage "pulled white sugar," where you can watch sugar syrup being pulled into snow-white sugar floss, sweet but not greasy. Accommodation Recommendations - Kaiyuan Yiju Lu Family Inn: Located in Keyan Scenic Area, with an excellent location just a 5-minute walk to Lu Town and Jian Lake. The inn is family-friendly, with loft rooms equipped with toys. Children's meals, slippers, toothbrushes, etc. are all available, offering great value for money at 300+ yuan per person. - Narada Shaoxing Jian Lake Hotel: A five-star hotel separated from Keyan Scenic Area by just a wall, with Lu Town right outside the door. The hotel is inspired by ancient Yue culture, incorporating watertown charm into details, with pavilions and winding corridors full of Jiangnan flavor. Accommodation Experience - Staying at Kaiyuan Yiju Lu Family Inn feels like living in a Jiangnan garden, with beautiful scenery outside your window. The owner thoughtfully prepared children's slippers, toys, and welcome fruits, making you feel very warm. Staying at Narada Shaoxing Jian Lake Hotel allows you to enjoy five-star quality service. The hotel has its own camping base and is surrounded by beautiful environment, as if you're in a traditional Chinese ink painting scroll, very pleasant. The dining environment is spacious and comfortable. 🕐️Opening hours: 11:00 am–1:30 pm 5:30 pm–8:30 pm 💰️Average price: CNY 100 💗Other tips: I tried the restaurant's specialties👇 ✅Steamed Seasonal Vegetables with Soy Sauce The vegetables are much more tender than those in northern China, crispy, and juicy. ✅Fresh Salmon Sashimi I don't think it tastes as good as it does in northern China. ✅Braised Pork Ribs with Dried Vegetables (Shaoxing Style) Sweet and savory, the meat is tender and flavorful. It's delicious. ✅Loofah with Clams The loofah is incredibly tender, juicy, and melts in your mouth like jelly. ✅Keqiao-style Shaoxing Three Delicacies The word "fresh" doesn't do it justice! ✅Traditional Yangchun Noodles I came here for the Yangchun Noodles, and this bowl is like a refreshing poem in spring. The delicate noodles stretch in boiling water and are cooked to just the right texture. The clear broth is like a spring, fresh but not greasy. Every bite is filled with the bounty of the earth and the essence of time. Garnished with tender green onions, like new sprouts in spring, the noodles gain a touch of vibrant color. The delicious broth flows over the taste buds, seemingly washing away the fatigue of travel, allowing us to immerse ourselves in this simple yet pure delicacy. The aftertaste is endless. ⚠️Yangchun Noodles take a long time to prepare. Please expect a 30-minute wait.

Anchang Ancient Town in Shaoxing is an ancient town located by the water. It has buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties on both sides and quaint bridges connecting the two sides of the river. Each bridge tells a story. If you travel during off-peak hours, there will be fewer people on the bridge, making it ideal for photography. There are mostly residential houses on the south side of the river, and mostly shops and workshops on the north side of the river. The bluestone roads, the mottled bridges, the grey and white walls that show age, time seems to slow down here. 🌟Highlights: There are many small delicacies in the ancient town. I had a bowl of Shiye wontons, a piece of plum blossom cake, a portion of osmanthus wine, another portion of stinky tofu, and Anchang seal cake to take home. After walking along this half of the river, my stomach was full. Touring the ancient town is free, but visiting the exhibition hall requires payment. 👍Most Recommended: Renchang Soy Sauce Factory, a century-old soy sauce factory, still makes its soy sauce using traditional methods. The neatly arranged rows of sauce jars are still quite shocking. I missed the opportunity to buy some soy sauce to take home, which is a bit regrettable. If you are tired from walking, there are many teahouses along the river where you can stop and rest. I like coffee. I buy a cup at Starbucks, take a rest by the river, watch the peonies blooming in the teahouse next door, and watch the black-sailed boats shuttling back and forth. Traveling is not about rushing. Leisurely and comfortable are the most important things. For attractions near the ancient town, we recommend the Keyan Scenic Area; for hotels near the ancient town, we recommend the Junlan Shaoxing Jianhu Hotel.

In your leisure time, you can also leave the hotel to explore the Keqiao Scenic Area. Boating on Jianhu Lake, you can feel the culture and poetry in Lu You's poem: 'No need to buy a painting for a thousand gold, listen to my long song about Jianhu Lake.' The nearby Lu Town does not require an entrance fee, and there are many characters from Lu Xun's works in the town.
