[Kumamoto] The original! Yakatabune 🛳
#tripmemory2022
"Toraya Fish Tank Cuisine Amakusa Hondo Branch"
I decided to just have seafood bowls for lunch.
I was interested in the original houseboat🚢 that was featured in the Amakusa Donburi Fair pamphlet, so I went to Toraya.
The entrance to the restaurant is connected to the boat by a building, so it didn't rock.
The special Toraya bowl from the Donburi Donburi fair menu
Prawns, abalone, sea urchin, salmon roe, amberjack, sea bream, flounder... it was all over the place
The prawns were so plump I wanted to eat more🦐💕︎💕︎
The Amakusa Donburi Donburi fair is the 22nd time this year
Amakusa is the "island of ceramics" with many kilns and the best "pottery stone" that is the base of ceramics in Japan
A "treasure island of food" with many delicious ingredients from the sea and mountains
The "donburi" made in Amakusa is served with "donburi" made with delicious ingredients from Amakusa, so it's called the "Amakusa Donburi Donburi Fair"☺️

[Kumamoto] Sakitsu specialty: Sugi yokan
#tripmemory2022
"Miyashita Shoten"
Sakitsu specialty cedar yokan
You can buy it at Miyashita Shoten and Nanpuya.
Yokan filled with smooth bean paste.
The pink color is colored with dragon fruit,
They make it every morning with a mallet, so they don't make it much on weekdays.
I thought I'd buy it as a souvenir, but it was just before lunch, and it was the last one💦
It's like Karatsu's keeran.
It's not very sweet, but it's chewy.
When I was taking pictures of the soft serve ice cream and manhole, the owner brought me a tray of cedar yokan💦
He talked to me about various things and was very kind.
A kite came close to me.

[Kumamoto] A park where you can see the magnificent view of Amakusa

Chapel Bell Observation Park
500 steps from the stairs of Sakitsu Suwa Shrine
It took about 15 minutes.
It was November, but the weather was good and I climbed while sweating.
On the way, I visited Konpira Shrine
When I arrived, the view was so beautiful that it made my tiredness disappear
On the other side of the East China Sea was Sakitsu Church and the village
According to local people, when the construction plan was first planned,
the plan was to be able to drive from the back,
but it was canceled, so please do your best to climb the stairs.

[Kumamoto] Amakusazakitsu Suwa Shrine
#tripmemory2022
"Sakitsu Suwa Shrine"
It is said to have been built in 1647 to pray for good catches and safe sea travel, and the torii gate with the date 1685 is the oldest in Amakusa City.
It was apparently the site of the Amakusa landslide.
Next to it was the site of the Sakitsu Church before it was rebuilt.
The Sakitsu Church visible beyond the torii gate is beautiful ⛪️⛩
I'd like to come back during cherry blossom season 🌸

[Kumamoto] Church of the Sea
#tripmemory2022
"Sakitsu Church"
The current church was rebuilt in 1934 (Showa 9) during the time of French missionary Father Harbe.
In front of the parking lot on the mountain side, a Japanese house with a statue of Mary is the site of the wooden Sakitsu Church.
It is in a solid Gothic style and is called the Cathedral of the Sea.
I didn't take a photo from the side, but
The gray part on the entrance side is concrete, and the white part on the altar side is made of wood, which is due to construction funds.
Pic6The tiled roof is made of wood.
The interior of the church is covered with tatami mats, which is rare in Japan.

[Kumamoto] Oe Cathedral, the earliest church built in Amakusa
#tripmemory2022
"Oe Cathedral"
Checked out and headed towards Sakitsu
It is said to be the earliest church built in Amakusa.
A beautiful Romanesque church built on a hill in 1933 by Father Frédéric Garnier using his own money.
I visited in mid-November, which was a little early, but
It seems that the Christmas illuminations will be held from November 27th to January 8th, 2023 this year.
I would like to see the Christmas illuminations as well.
When I followed the navigation system, the road became steep.
Due to lack of research, I was unable to visit this time, but it seems that you can also walk there from the Rosario Hall.
I recommend choosing a route with a wide road.

I went to Shimoda Onsen.
I stayed at Yumehotaru ♨️
Dinner was served in the room.
There was a lot of food and I was full.
The large bath was also spacious and comfortable ♨️
The rooms were old and you had to go up the stairs to get there.
It seems that a new building has opened and there are rooms with baths.
At this time of year,
there was an Ise shrimp festival...🦐

Amakusa Ohe Catholic Church
#tripmemory2022
I went to Oe Cathedral, the oldest in the Amakusa region.
Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to take photos inside, so these are just photos of the exterior.
There were Christmas lights around the church. It was a shame that I couldn't see the illuminated scenery if I had stayed nearby.
It was a church with a unique atmosphere.

I enjoyed the Donburi Donburi Fair, which is held every year in the Amakusa region.
I had a seafood bowl at the original houseboat Toraya.
Not only was it fresh, but it was also a fun seafood bowl with a variety of different ingredients. I would have liked to have eaten it for two meals before going home.

Kumamoto Amakusa Seafood Storehouse
Amakusa is blessed with abundant seafood. The lunch barbecue set meal at the "Seafood Storehouse" near the pier includes saury, turbans, prawns, scallops, etc., and also includes rice balls and seafood soup, which is quite rich. The locals firmly believe in the principle of eating in season and believe that there is a time to eat seafood. In autumn and winter, it is more suitable to eat abalone and lobster. All seafood is grilled over open flames and is done by a dedicated person. I saw the aunts skillfully turning the seafood over and over in the oven with a diligent attitude. In order to maintain the original freshness of the seafood, they simply sprinkled sea salt, wine and lemon juice for seasoning, and controlled the heat just right.

A park at the tip of Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture, known only to those in the know♬
After driving for a while on a wavy mountain road⛰
When we arrived, the sea was sparkling in front of us🏝
To get to the cliffs, we passed through a forest road where Totoro looks like he might appear...
On the way, we also came across a 20m tall Ako tree, also known as the Laputa tree🌳
In season, 20,000 bright red camellias bloom🌺
It was a day when no one was around, so we were able to take photos wherever we wanted📸
It's a place you should visit before it gets popular💕
The sunset is also very beautiful, so if you go to Amakusa, be sure to go here🌅

A good place for parents and children, you must go to Amakusa to see dolphins
If you have the chance, you must go to Amakusa to see dolphins🐬. I was really lucky to witness so many dolphins🐬 that day. It was really fun❤️
Originally still worried that the children would not be able to withstand the wind and waves, but the boat is more stable than I imagined, and children's life jackets provided, when a large flock of dolphins passed by the boat was really shocking, wild dolphins in large flocks swimming over, up close to see so many dolphins, very special experience! Let your children realize that dolphins don’t just live in aquariums, they originally lived in the ocean!
It is recommended to see the dolphins before going to eat, because eating too full out of the sea can easily get nauseous 😂😂

[Japan🇯🇵] Kumamoto Kuratake Shrine HUICAFE

I visited Kuratake Shrine and Hui Cafe and spent a day that cleansed my soul. At Kuratake Shrine, the torii gates and shrine buildings, standing in silence, blended with nature and created a sacred atmosphere. Every time I walked along the approach to the shrine, my mind calmed and I was able to forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Afterwards, I took a break at the nearby Hui Cafe. From the open space with a white base, I could see the beautiful sea, and enjoyed the dishes and sweets made with local ingredients along with the pleasant sea breeze. In particular, the lunch plate made with fresh seafood from Amakusa was exquisite. This trip, which combined nature and gourmet food, was a wonderful experience that refreshed both my mind and body.

Amakusa in Kumamoto Prefecture is truly a "pack of spectacular views"! With large and small islands floating in the emerald green sea and a magnificent panoramic view from the mountain, it is one of the most spectacular spots in Japan.
First, we recommend a drive along the seaside. Every time you cross the Amakusa Five Bridges, you will be moved by the sparkling sea that fills your field of vision! It is even more beautiful at sunrise and sunset, like a scene from a movie. You can also park your car and go down to the sandy beach. Spending time relaxing while feeling the sea breeze is perfect for resetting your mind.
And if you want to enjoy a spectacular view from the mountains, head to "Tomiyama Park" or "Juusanbutsu Park"! You can see the majestic view of the sea and islands, and if you're lucky, you may even be able to see a sea of clouds. In the evening, the sky, sea, and islands begin to change color like a gradation, and it is so beautiful that it leaves you speechless...
