In Penang, you’ll be surrounded by loads of places to eat and different types of cuisines but the one cuisine you need to try is the Nonya one. Nonya food is a pretty accurate description of love at first bite. We ordered various kuih muihs as appetizers and for the mains, we ordered the nasi kuning with curry, Penang laksa, toasted roti with curry and a side of Pai tee. Each dish was yum! This place has been operating since 1933. #celebrateit Last year a buddy visited me from United States, so we did a weekend short trip to Penang. Because this place was on the list of Michelin recommendations, so we set out to give it a try. Both of us don’t exactly have a sweet tooth, but it turned out we enjoyed the desserts a lot. First of all, they have almost ALL variety of nyonya desserts; secondly, they offer them in ultra small portion, which is FANTASTIC, so we were able to try more variety without getting full (and fat). Taste wise, it’s exactly what we grew up eating. I can’t say how heavenly it is, because these kinda traditional food is meant to be simple. But everything tasted distinct, and nothing was a letdown. This is one of the Michelin recommendations that I endorse.

#malaysiatrip This restaurant is preserving the nyonya culinary heritage. They have all sorts of traditional nyonya kuih, laksa and rice. My favourite kuih is kuih talam, curry puff and pulut inti. Their laksa is also tasty. For rice, they have nasi ulam and nasi lemak. They have also tried to keep the nyonya ambience in their decor. I would consider the price quite expensive. But it's still a worthwhile experience.

#2024wish We really enjoyed the kuehs here. They were mini-sized and perfect for tasting the large variety of kuehs they had to offer. My recommendation would be the curry puff which was supper yummy ! The assam laksa was on the milder side and suited us. The seating area was cooling and comfortable and we also liked the decor here. You also get to walk through the kitchen and see the kueh preparation process. Would definitely return!
