The Port Authority Building, commonly known as the Navy Factory, is located on the side of A-Ma Hill in the St. Lawrence Parish of the Macao Special Administrative Region. It is an office building for government departments. It was built in 1874.
The Port Authority Building is 67.5 meters long and 37 meters wide. It is a brick and stone building influenced by Arabic colors and Gothic architectural features. The Port Authority Building is one of the few remaining neoclassical buildings in Macau with Moorish style. The Port Authority Building is built against the mountain and is roughly square in shape, with one side backed by the mountain and the other three sides supported by a high granite foundation. A long corridor is built on the foundation. At the intersection of the corridors, the roof height is slightly raised, breaking the strong sense of horizontality of the building. On its mutually perpendicular exterior walls, there are three Islamic pointed arches, each more than one meter wide and supported by four thin columns. Together with the rhythmic obelisk decorations on the parapet, a strong sense of rhythm is created.
Because of its unique architectural style, the Port Authority Building, as an integral part of the Historic Center of Macao, has been listed on the World Heritage List. Don’t miss this unique yellow building! !
