The toughest climb I've ever done. Yes it was more difficult than Mount K and more of mental challenge than anything. We trekked the 9km muddy trail to & from the camp5, survived the whole 3 days without the internet, went thru a complete mess of climbing up and down the Pinnacles, getting bruises on the legs and scratches on hands, and now having aches all over the body. Two flights and a car ride and here you are at one of the most beautiful nature reserves in Malaysia! I personally like the route via Miri but you can get here via Kuching and KK too. My choice accommodation is in the park itself where everything is well maintained and resort-like. Heater, air-conditioning, electric kettle, comfy beds…it’s all available! Say goodbye to 4G connectivity unless you are on Digi (The locals are delighted that they can now watch YouTube uninterrupted with it.) ☘️ Walks, caving, climbing, boat rides, waterfalls…it’s all here. Just soak it in. The bat exodus is mesmerizing and discovering sleeping bats is so fun! The guides speak good English and are fun people. Visitors range from little kids to lil’ ol’ grannies. The nightwalk is a must (although photos are hard to take) as you might see sleeping birds, wild life and glowing fungi. There’s a cafeteria onsite but you can walk out to the park entrance for a few home-cafes. The food is simple and there is a good variety. Keep expectations to a minimum and you’ll be impressed! 😉 My #2023travelwish would be visit New Zealand south island and explore nature hikes there. Gunung Mulu located in preserve area in Sarawak.A must place to go for everyone. Most amazing cave I've ever visited so far. It's a famous cave system and also the natural beauty of millions year of rainforest. As a tourist alot of activities can be done here like jungle trekking, mountains climbing, flores exploring, bat exodus and so on. Please come to visit here one of the Malaysian wonders. In 2023, I visited Mulu National Park, a World Heritage Site in Borneo, and had an unforgettable experience. I flew over the lush rainforest and the towering peak of Gunung Mulu, stayed at a luxurious resort, explored some of the largest and most impressive caves in the world, witnessed the amazing bat exodus from Deer Cave, visited the Penan Village and learned about their culture and way of life, and enjoyed the natural beauty and wildlife of the park. It was a trip of a lifetime that I will never forget. In 2024, I want to go to Phuket Island. #2024wish

Getting There - register at mulu national park HQ and select available time for the trip. it require guide & fees apply. Only RM45. Attractions - activity is in the morning, so for those who loves bird watching from high above the tree, its a good chance. Besides, the canopy walk is longer than National park in Pahang. The path build strategically above the trees and river. You can see the cliff or walls of Deer cave as well. View of the thick forest, mountains and Paku river. But beware if slippery walkways. It gets muddy during rainy season. Hotels - You can choose to stay at Mulu park HQ at reasonable price. Rooms offered varies, depend how many person per room. I got to stay at long house (4pax) only for RM 180/night and Rainforest Lodge for only RM160 per night. got aircond too. If you wish to stay at lower price, you can choose to stay at homestay which is few steps away from the National Park entrance. I stayed at AA homestay which cost you RM65 per night. It’s just they don’t have electricity except from 6pm-12am. Food & Restaurants - If you stay in the HQ park, you can dine in their cafe. price per plate is around RM20. If you stay outside the HQ, you can also dine in HQ cafe too. Or you can dine at the homestay which usually have canteen. price also same. Shopping - It’s hard to find shops around the village. Besides the stuff sells is only basic for living. Dont expect to find snacks like ice cream or delicious drinks. The price also more expensive because of the limited stock.#nationalpark

Mulu World Heritage area has an airport, a hotel, a very small village with a clinic and primary school. Then there is Mulu National Park - 85 000 ha of some of the oldest pristine rainforests in the world! You will only get to see a small part of this because inside Mulu National Park the only modes of transport are longboats and your own two feet. Come fit, come prepared, NO banks, NO chemist, almost no roads and yes, LIMITED connectivity! You can stay most conveniently inside the National Park in accommodation ranging from air-conditioned bungalows to shared hostel facilities. Outside the Park you can stay in the luxury Marriott Resort or have a choice of homestays. Your adventure should start with the best of our show caves, Deer Cave in the afternoon to catch the iconic/ famous bat exodus and a boat ride to Clearwater Cave in the morning. Although it is fully possible to do these two iconic outings in one day it is better to do it on separate days because of the high humidity sapping your energy. Rather combine one of the show cave outings with an unguided walk at your leisure. Then there is adventure caving for those wanting to experience more of Mulu’s vast cave system. For these you have to be at least 12 years old and certainly fitter and stronger as well. Mulu also offers more extreme high altitude adventures like climbing Gunung (Mt) Mulu and the iconic Pinnacles. Beware, for these adventures you need excellent health and fitness. This world heritage destination requires advance planning due to its remote location and unpredictable rainforest weather.
