Only after visiting this museum did I find out that it’s considered to be one of the most important in the world! The sculptures are incredibly detailed and intricate. One of the most outstanding and beautiful parts of the Palazzo Altemps is the painted frescoes on the walls ceilings of the Loggia on the first floor. The Frisco’s are meant to depict a secret garden and the ceiling frescoes are painted in such a way that they give a 3D impression, it really is something quite special. The courtyard of the Palazzo Altemps, really gives you an idea of the grand scale of the palace that this building was before it became a museum. In the courtyard you will find four Roman statues and a splendid fountain and nymphaeum. The palace dates from the 15th century, it was owned by various different private individuals over the years, even including the Holy See, today is his property of the Italian government. I’ve been three times to Rome but only discovered this beautiful museum my most recent visit I will definitely be visiting again though as it’s definitely worth multiple visits.
