The faces of the workers in the murals have been eroded by wind and rain into blurred patches of color, with only the outline of the sickle stubbornly hanging on the crumbling walls. The footsteps of explorers stir up dust, echoing in the circular corridor, as if one can hear the lingering sounds of the bustling crowds of 1981 – when six thousand volunteers carried stones on their shoulders, climbing the steep slopes, women holding rose garlands to infuse the construction site with fragrance, and children chasing each other among the tents, planting the communist fairy tale into the granite foundation. Now, the steel beams are exposed like the bones of a giant beast, wildflowers sprout from the cracks in the concrete, and winter snow drapes the ruins in white, closer to eternity than in its prime.

🔸 Also known as: Buzludzha Monument 🔸 Standing on a remote peak in Stara Zagora, its shape closely resembles a UFO from a sci-fi movie. However, it was built in the 1970s, a communist monument constructed by 6,000 workers over 7 years, completed in 1981. 🔸 This building commemorates the secret gathering led by Dimitar Blagoev in 1891, where a group of socialists met in this area to form an organized socialist movement, leading to the establishment of the Bulgarian Social Democratic Party, the precursor to the Bulgarian Communist Party. 🔸 In 1989, the Bulgarian Communist Party relinquished power, and Bulgaria began its transition to democratic politics. The Buzludzha Monument gradually lost its original significance. Now, due to long-term disrepair, it is in a state of ruin and inaccessible, only its exterior can be photographed.

It's amazing to see the full history of creating Rose Oil over the centuries and the tools, methods and machines used to create this very beautiful oil which smells beautifully of a rose. The museum consist of a circular building and as you walk around it takes you through the history with lots of reading, poster, artifacts and even clothing. There is a gift shop where you can buy many products containing rose oil or souvenirs relating to it.

If you are in Kazanluk and you want a trip back in time then you have to visit this original Thracian tomb from the 4th – 3rd century BC, situated in the Tyulbeto park. For easy to understand reasons, the original tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is closed to public access but an identical copy of it, located in the immediate vicinity, can be visited daily from 09.00 to 17:30. Taxes are 6 €/adult and families benefit from a reduced access rate (4 euro / adult + 2 euro / child, pupil, student).

The Kazanlak region has the world's largest rose garden. The Rose Valley is about 100 kilometers long. It is located on the south side of the Balkan Mountains. It is surrounded by mountains and rivers with a mild climate. The harvesting period is long and the flowers have the highest essential oil content. The rose picking period lasted from early May to mid-June, and we rushed to share the joy of the flower farmers at the end of May. In the morning, the flower field scented, and the morning glow sprinkled a golden light. A flower grower who was busy picking and smiling gave me a pink Damascus rose with dew. The opportunity to get in touch with such a fascinating flower field is rare, and we have two big mornings between the roses. The rose picking ceremony is held in a flower field. The local men, women and children are dressed in traditional costumes, wearing rosettes, garlands, hand-wound wicker baskets, singing and dancing. Many men follow the ancient tradition and pick the first one. The rose is inserted in the hair behind the ear. Together with the villagers, we are enchanted by the fragrant flowers and the joy of harvest.
