The park with many cherry trees like Harymeki zakura is in full bloom, at the foot of the cherry blossom trees are yellow canola flowers. And together they make a wonderful scene. My favourite early Sakura viewing spot is at the outskirts of Tokyo. The early Sakuras are called kawazu Sakura. This is a park/mountain situated near Matsuda JR station and it is covered by the JR pass~ They hold usually hold the Sakura Masturi (festival) in late February to early march. The view from the top is also fantastic. If you are lucky enough, you may even see Mount Fuji! It is best to go during a weekday as there may be a crowd during the weekends. However, there is an entrance fee for the park, approximately 300 yen. Trust me, the view is worth every penny. You can either choose to walk from the station to the park or wait for the bus which always have a long queue. Walking is the best as you can also see the small unique shops along the way. The other day I went hiking on Mt. Nabewari, located in the Tanzawa Mountains in Kanagawa Prefecture. Mt. Nabewari is a mountain with an elevation of 1,493 meters, and the shape of the summit is said to look like a broken pot, which is where you can enjoy the beautiful nature. You can also enjoy nabeyaki udon for 2,000 yen at Nabewari Sanso at the summit. If it's clear, you can see a spectacular view of Mt. Fuji and Sagami Bay from the summit. This time I hiked Mt. Nabewari round trip from Okura. I left Okura bus stop at 7:40. Okura bus stop has restaurants and clean toilets, and is the base for the trailheads of Mt. Tonodake and Mt. Nabewari. At first, the path was gentle, but after crossing a stream, the climb gradually became harder, and from Ushirozawa Norikoshi, it was really tough because it was all about climbing stairs. It was quite cold at the summit, so I took a short break before descending. 🚶Outing record: Time to Mt. Nabewari round trip: 8 hours Distance: 16.8km uphill, 1284m downhill, 1284m I'm a slow walker, so I think my standard time would be a little faster. This was a challenging mountain, and I was worried about whether I could reach the summit, but I'm glad I was able to do so safely. Walking through the mountains was very healing. It was tough, but it was a really fun mountain trip. The transparent pink color of the cherry blossoms illuminated by the setting sun will soothe your everyday fatigue. Also, because it is on high ground, if you look down you can see the cherry blossoms and the townscape, and if you look up a little you can see Mt. Fuji. If the view is good, you can take a photo of the cherry blossoms with Mt. Fuji in the background. Please be sure to go between lunchtime and sunset! Fuji is backlit in the afternoon, so it is recommended to go in the morning. The official website states that the cherry blossom festival hours are "9:00 am to 4:00 pm." However, when I visited, I was able to enter even though I arrived around 8:00, perhaps by chance. (Thank you for coming early in the morning 🙇♂️) There were not many people immediately after entering, so I was able to take photos at my own pace.
