Nanxiang Ancient Town is one of the four famous historical towns in Shanghai, and it was once said to rival the city of Suzhou in its beauty. Due to its relatively remote location, it guards the northwest gateway of Shanghai and is located in Jiefang Street, southeast of Jiading District. Nanxiang Ancient Town is a millennium-old town. As early as the fourth year of the Tianjian era of the Southern Dynasties, which is 505 AD, the Baihe Nanxiang Temple was built, and the ancient town was named after the temple. From that time, it has a history of over 1500 years. The town was very prosperous in history. In the early Ming Dynasty, it became the most bustling market town in Jiading County, and by the early Qing Dynasty, with the convergence of beans, rice, wheat, and various goods, it earned the reputation of 'Silver Nanxiang'. The town currently has a rare Five Dynasties brick pagoda, as well as the ancient Yi Garden, which is still a famous attraction in Nanxiang. Here, the ancient charm and the atmosphere of daily life that even the bustling city cannot cover are unforgettable. Strolling leisurely along the street, what comes into view are the ancient town's features: whitewashed walls with black tiles, long doors and short windows, small bridges over flowing water, and houses along the river. Wandering in the beautiful water town of Nanxiang Ancient Town is like stepping into a picturesque picture of a water town in the south of the Yangtze River. The winding bluestone path is full of white walls, black tiles, and red and green willows, forming a beautiful scene full of Jiangnan feelings. Walking along the path, you can see pools of dark water canals flowing rapidly and gurgling from time to time. Above the water, there are stone arch bridges with carved beams and painted buildings rising majestically on both sides of the river, adding a bit of poetry to this quiet scene. Occasionally, a cruise ship will pass by under the arch bridge, setting off waves of sparkling ripples, adding a touch of vitality to the tranquility and peace. Beside the bluestone road, there are clusters of emerald green vegetation, or delicate wild flowers blooming here and there, adding a bit of spring to this waterside path. 🌸Went to Guyi Garden to see the peonies, and arranged a one-day trip to Nanxiang. There was food, drink, and fun. Although the road was far, the transportation was convenient.
