This year, my parents surprised me with a family stay at Nirwana Resort for my birthday. They booked a connecting room—a Premier Room and a Suite—which was perfect for our family getaway.
We arrived in the afternoon, and the check-in process was smooth. The staff were warm and welcoming, and they even gave me a little birthday surprise during check-in! The rooms were ready on time, and we were escorted to our connecting rooms.
The Premier Room was cozy and modern, while the Suite was spacious but outdated, with a separate living area and a bird’s-eye view of the resort’s surroundings. Both rooms were decently clean and stocked with basic toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The beds and air conditioning worked decently, ensuring a comfortable stay.
The pool looked clean and had no crowds in the afternoon, which was perfect for a lazy lounge. It was one of the highlights of our stay, offering a peaceful spot to unwind.
The resort also offered a variety of dining options. We had lunch at their poolside dining, but it was average and very pricey—we spent about $100 SGD for four individual rice dishes. Dinner at one of their in-house restaurants was better; the seafood was delicious, fresh, and definitely half the price of Singapore. However, the breakfast spread was average and unappetizing. I recommend sticking to their seafood options, as they’re more value for money and taste better.
There were a few downsides, though. The Wi-Fi was spotty in some areas, and the shuttle service to nearby attractions could have been more frequent.
Considering the price paid, almost everything else at the resort had additional charges. For example, they provided free bowling passes, but it was only for one guest per room, and shoes had additional charges. The staff were friendly, but service was very slow.
Overall, I would only recommend this place to people who just want to relax, as the pace is very slow, and everything else is overpriced. The connecting rooms worked wonderfully for us, and the resort’s peaceful ambiance made it a great stay to recharge. Regardless, I’m thankful for my parents’ surprise. However, if you’re looking for a place to stay in Bintan, I’m sure there are cheaper and better alternatives.
