The Nonomiya-jinja Shrine is a Shinto shrine. Because of its nature as a native faith in Japan, it differs quite significantly from the elaborate temples of Arashiyama, both in terms of its history and its ambience. Yet, as a Shinto shrine, the Nonomiya-jinja Shrine had a very specific and unique role in imperial history as well. The Nonomiya Shrine comes from the Heian period. It served as the venue of a religious practice in antiquity, “successive imperial princesses stayed in the Nonomiya Shrine for a year or more to purify themselves before becoming representatives of the imperial family at the Ise Shrine in Mie prefecture.” (Wikipedia on Nonomiya Shrine). These imperial priestesses were called Saigu. At the time of founding, the Nonomiya Shrine served Princess Ninshi, a daughter of Emperor Saga, who served as Saigu from 809 to 903 A.D. at Ise Jingu, which was the most important shrine in the country. As Saigu, the princess carried out rituals and offerings, and I assume that meant she was the religious ambassador to pray on behalf of her country. In classic 11th century Japanese literature, the Tale of Genji, which is said by some to be the world’s first novel, has a chapter set in the Nomomiya Shrine. The plot involves the love story between Prince Genji and Lady Rokujo. At first, I was captivated by the completely Japanese-style train tracks you can see in the last photo, but when I looked at the train tracks🛤️, they were right on the left. People were busy going to Chikurin, so not many people went there, but I visited around 10 AM and was able to take lots of pretty ❤️❤️❤️ pictures. Nonomiya Shrine⛩️ is known to bring good relationships👩❤️👨! You can definitely see it on the way to Chikurin! Don't pass it by and definitely visit! The atmosphere is different from other shrines. It's really beautiful. Even the moss on the trees is totally~! Japanese🇯🇵-like. It's next to Chikurin, so the atmosphere is friendly with nature and has a completely different atmosphere from other shrines in Kyoto. Nonomiya Shrine is surrounded by lush forests. It is said that it is particularly effective for praying for a good match. Osaka Bamboo Forest This forest is unique for me as it is full of bamboo instead of trees. I found there are 2 parts, in the beginning path the bamboo has lighter colours and walk further it looks thickers and darker colours. Really nice that we see a wide area full with bamboo. Inside the forest there is a temple that can pay a visit. We learnt from the local on the prayers step which is interesting.
