[2025 Inari Stay] Travel Guide for Northern Lights Village Saariselkä (Updated May)

A couple of years ago I had seen a few of my favorite content creators go on a photography trip to the northern part of Finland 🇫🇮 , also known as Lapland. This area which is part of the Arctic Circle, is known for its winter wonderland vibes and breathtaking sceneries expanding on vast areas. ❄️ This winter, I finally made it happen. I didn’t believe it could exceed my already very high expectations. But it did. I am going to share my best shots from this Lapland trip this week. Here is the first few from the Northern Lights Village, a beautiful property we stayed at in Saariselkä. Make sure to follow along 😇

| They look amazing in real life! 🩵 The English word for Finnish glass igloos is "igloo." A more straightforward term is "glass room." 🍀 When we went to Finland, we stayed in some very unique rooms in the Lapland region. To be honest, we still have a long way to go in developing our own ice and snow industry. 📍 There are many beautiful igloos and cabins in Rovaniemi, Saariselkä, and Inari. They all have unique shapes. 🌟 Forest cabins - chalet 🌟 Mobile mini igloos - cabin Make sure to check carefully when booking a room. 🩵 Saariselkä 📍 We visited the popular Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort in Saariselkä, but the rooms felt a bit small, less than 20 m², which was quite cramped. 📍 Not far away is Northern Light Village, which has newer facilities and rooms twice the size, offering great value for money. So we ended up booking Northern Light Village. 🩵 Inari 👉 In Inari, we stayed in a cabin, which was much better than the igloos. 🩵 Levi ❄ The glass igloos in Levi are cube-shaped, with a square design. The one-way mirror glass exterior walls are very stylish. 🍀 From the outside, they look like mirrors reflecting the forest, but from the inside, you can see everything outside, which is very wild. 🩵 Booking Tips ☕ Most of the glass igloos in Saariselkä include breakfast and dinner, which is convenient. The glass igloos in Levi only include breakfast, but the room rates in Levi are half the price. 🛷 The glass igloo hotels in Saariselkä, Inari, and Levi all offer aurora tours and husky sledding activities. 💰 There are also many glass igloos in Rovaniemi, but they are the most expensive. Considering that the main goal of this trip was to see the aurora, not to stay in a glass igloo, we chose to experience the glass igloos further north. 🛀 The glass igloos here all have electric water heaters, which are not convenient for showering, as you have to wait. The rooms are quite warm, thanks to air conditioning and fireplaces, but they are very dry.

Saariselka is a village with only more than 300 people. The hotel is located here. It is an independent resort. There is a village within a 5-minute walk with several restaurants, supermarkets, souvenir shops and gas stations. In addition, the hotel only has walking and leisure activities, nearby hiking trails and various outdoor activity groups, such as dog sledding, ice motorcycles, aurora chasing groups, etc. The facilities in the hotel are actually very satisfactory. I was really torn before booking. After comparing the first igloo (the most famous one with glass balls) and this one, I chose this place for two reasons. : 1. The room is 11 square meters larger than the glass ball. The glass ball is 18 square meters and feels very crowded. The room here is very spacious at 29 square meters and very comfortable. 2. There is no bathroom in the glass ball. I need to go to the shower space 200 meters away. I can't stand it. It is very comfortable here. Although it is said that every time hot water is provided, you have to wait for 15 minutes. In fact, my wife and I can complete the shower with 15 minutes of hot water. The hotel restaurant is very large and gives people a warm and comfortable feeling. Two meals a day (breakfast and dinner) are included in the room rate. Both meals are buffet and the dishes are average. Some netizens mentioned that macarons are free here. This is true, and the quality level is said to come from France. I absolutely believe it, it is indeed great! The hotel actually has many facilities. On the last night, we chose the outdoor jacuzzi + sauna. We soaked in 40-degree hot water in the snow, and then took a sauna. The fatigue of the day was completely gone, so comfortable! Finally, I also attach some beautiful hiking photos of the nearby national park (which can be reached by walking 700 meters). My wife and I chose a trip of about 3 hours to enjoy the beauty of the original mountains and forests in the snow! Afraid of getting lost? Follow the red sticks on the roadside and you will always find the direction.
