Heading north along the Nujiang Grand Canyon, we finally arrived at the 'first-tier city' hidden in the canyon——Lushui. Lushui is the capital of Nujiang Prefecture, located in the Nujiang Grand Canyon. Squeezed by the cliffs on both sides, it has been forced to become a first-tier city, literally a first-tier city. From the moment we saw the urban built-up area related to Lushui, the city of Lushui stretched nearly 20 kilometers along the Nujiang River, but its width was less than 100 meters, and in some places, there was only one road. The widest part is where the municipal government is located, about 1 kilometer, which is already the widest part of Lushui. Compared to its narrowness, Lushui's more significant feature is its steepness. As mentioned in the previous article, north of Mangkuan Beach, the Nujiang River has deep valleys and rapid waters, with no large river beaches. Basically, the mountains on both sides extend directly into the Nujiang River. Therefore, the roads in this area, and even Lushui City itself, are carved out of the mountains. Lushui City is carved out of a series of terraces along both sides of the Nujiang River, on the eastern foothills of the Gaoligong Mountains and the western foothills of the Nu Mountains. The city is distributed in layers on these terraces, with varying heights, making it a true 8D city. The main city of Lushui is divided into two main areas: the old city in the north, located between the Nujiang River and the Nu Mountains, and the new city in the south, located between the Nujiang River and the Gaoligong Mountains. The two districts are connected by only two riverside roads. However, the facilities in Lushui are quite good. The city's infrastructure is relatively new, as most of the urban areas were likely built in recent years with the arrival of technology and funding. A pedestrian system has been created along both sides of the Nujiang River, connecting the two banks and becoming the best urban landscape. In every corner of Lushui, you can hear the majestic roar of the Nujiang River in the background. It's no wonder it's named Nujiang (Angry River); the rushing waters seem to roar endlessly, sounding even louder in the confines of the deep valley. My two favorite places in Lushui are the west bank of the Nujiang River, where we stayed and will talk about in detail later, and the Lushui Municipal Government. The government building is located at the highest point, backed by the Gaoligong Mountains, facing the Nujiang River, and overlooking the Nu Mountains. It is an excellent viewing platform, and the stepped government square provides different heights for viewing, making the scenery of the Nujiang Grand Canyon even more charming. More impressive than the scenery is Lushui's level of development. This border city, the farthest from the inland, is only ten kilometers away in a straight line from the war-torn northern Myanmar region on the other side of the Gaoligong Mountains. On this side of the Gaoligong Mountains, walking on the brightly lit commercial streets, looking at the rows of shops and a dazzling array of goods, inland clothing and catering are still prevalent here. It is hard not to marvel at the strength of the country and the care of the government, allowing this borderland to enjoy peace and experience a lifestyle no different from the inland. The provincial road from Lujiangba to Lushui runs through the Nujiang Grand Canyon. The road is located on the gentle slope at the foot of the mountain on the west bank of the Nujiang River. It winds forward. Sitting in the car, the Gaoligong Mountain is on the left, and the Nujiang River and Nushan are on the right. The two mountains are sandwiched by a river, and the scenery is magnificent. The Nujiang Grand Canyon itself is part of the World Heritage Site of the Three Parallel Rivers. As the Hengduan Mountains on the edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, it is like the largest fold on the earth. More than a dozen north-south mountain ranges run parallel here, and between the valleys are rushing rivers. Among them, the Nujiang River, Lancang River, and Jinsha River are only 50 kilometers apart at the narrowest point, which is a rare spectacle in the world. The Nujiang Grand Canyon is a typical Hengduan Mountain canyon. There are towering mountains on both sides. The river cuts deeply to form a V-shaped valley. The small beaches formed by the collapse of the mountain walls on both sides and the river's alluvial form the river bank. The provincial road we are driving extends along such a river bank. In ancient times, such river banks also constituted a large corridor for ethnic migration. Frequent migrations also left a large number of ethnic groups and brilliant cultures in the Nujiang Grand Canyon, making it a holy place for the study of ethnology. Self-driving in the Nujiang Grand Canyon feels good. The provincial road is wide enough, with two lanes in both directions, and there is an emergency lane. The asphalt-paved road is smooth. Because it runs along the valley, there are not many bends and steep slopes, and the driving experience is very good. As for the scenery, it goes without saying. Although I know that this section is not actually the most spectacular part of the Nujiang Grand Canyon, the towering mountains and the rushing river are already shocking enough. The bright phoenix trees that appear from time to time by the road add luster to this grand canyon. The only regret is that the weather is not very good and I can't see the picture with the highest color saturation. Because of this beautiful scenery, the journey to Lushui has become short. In the changing scenery, I have unknowingly come near Lushui.

Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture is located in the western part of Yunnan Province, within the Nujiang Gorge of the Hengduan Mountains, bordering Myanmar to the west. G219 serves as the main (and perhaps the only) transportation route running north-south through the prefecture. The road conditions on the Nujiang section of G219 are excellent, but as you continue from Bingzhongluo Town towards Chayu County in Nyingchi City, the road conditions suddenly deteriorate, turning into the famous 'Bingcha-Cha' crossing route. Our trip focused on Nujiang Prefecture and was conducted in winter. Daytime temperatures in the dry-hot valley can exceed 20 degrees Celsius, but nighttime temperatures are low, so be sure to adjust your clothing accordingly. The Nu River is majestic and grand during the summer flood season, while in winter, it shows a quieter side. Without the influx of rainwater carrying sediment, the quiet waters of the Nu River in winter reveal a rare blue color, like a gemstone. Not far into Nujiang Prefecture, you will reach the capital, Lushui City. The county town is built along the Nujiang Gorge, with a narrow and long structure. The local economy is not highly developed, and the roads in the town are narrow with compact houses due to the terrain. Less than an hour's drive from Lushui City, you can reach Dengeng Bathhouse. Dengeng Bathhouse is a free natural hot spring located by the Nu River. During the flood season, the rising waters of the Nu River submerge it, while in the dry season, it emerges. Many local Nu and Lisu people enjoy soaking in the hot spring and are very enthusiastic about introducing the area to visitors. The hot spring is highly recommended. Near the hot spring, you can also experience the Nu River zip line, a paid activity developed by local villagers. The zip line is a traditional way for locals to cross the river before bridges were built. A round trip costs 50 yuan and is quite thrilling. Heading upstream along G219, you can stay in Laomudeng Village. It is recommended to stay in a high-altitude guesthouse to enjoy views of the Nujiang Gorge, Crown Mountain, and even the perennial snow on Gaoligong Mountain. The local people are simple and honest, and prices are not high. The guesthouse owner where we stayed was a Nu girl who was very hospitable and cooked delicious traditional local food. Further up from Laomudeng Village is the former capital of Nujiang Prefecture, the lost town of Zhiziluo. Zhiziluo was once a major transportation hub connecting Nujiang Prefecture with the outside world, with frequent trade and gradual development. However, due to geological factors, all residents moved to Lushui City, leaving behind an empty town that still retains the appearance of the last century. Continuing south, you will pass Shiyueliang. Shiyueliang is a rock formation with a large circular hole in the middle, formed by erosion. Later, the mountain body uplifted, pushing it to the top of the mountain, resembling a full moon. You can view it from a viewing platform beside G219, and you should also be able to climb up if you enter the scenic area. The innermost part of Nujiang Prefecture is the famous Bingzhongluo Township. Overlooking from the viewing platform, it is indeed a place where immortals reside. The houses on the dam are scattered, with snow-capped mountains above and the rushing Nu River below. Occasionally, you can hear the crowing of roosters and barking of dogs, with smoke curling up from the rooftops, presenting a peaceful scene. The first bend of the Nu River is also spectacular, and it is recommended to go to the viewing platform on the mountain top, which all the guesthouse owners know how to reach. Crossing the Nujiang Gorge to the west, you can reach Dulongjiang Township. If you are lucky, you may see tattooed women, but the road conditions are poor, and you need to make a reservation to enter. Precautions: 1. Driving in the valley, be cautious of falling rocks on cliffside roads. 2. There are many blind turns, so slow down and drive carefully. 3. Adjust your clothing in a timely manner. 4.
